@GoGoSnoGirl: I had the same thing happen, but was in total denial since I was only 35.4 weeks, so I went back to bed!

DS- broke at 33 weeks 6 days right as I was getting out of shower
DD- 35 weeks 6 days water broke when I was in bathroom talking to DH while he was showering -
I had a slow leak while I was sleeping. I got up to go to the bathroom following a contraction and realized it was my water and not pee. Once I got to the hospital and had the epidural, my water broke a few minutes later, pop and then a gush!

I was walking from the laundry room to the bathroom. So glad that we don't have carpet.

DD1: I was at home doing my hair and makeup for my last pre-baby date night.
DD2: At home timing contractions and debating whether to call my mom to watch DD1. -

it was just a trickle at first and I thought no big deal, my mom and I can hit up one last store. Then it started coming out in little gushes. With my first, it broke when I started pushing.

Doctor broke it at 8cm!

Kind of jealous that I never got an exciting 'and then my water broke' story. With my first, it was broken at the end of my long induction. My second baby was born en caul, so it never broke, and the midwife had to tear open the sack after delivery, which was very cool.

I was sitting on my couch entertaining friends at 38w5d when I felt a gush and ran to the bathroom. I stayed calm and finished my visit, DH came home from work late, and I called L&D. I had zero contractions but they told me they wanted me to come in. They said once I was confirmed with a water break I would not be leaving until I had a baby so we ran around the house cleaning and showering and letting local friends and my mom know and went in. Never ended up having contractions so I was induced which failed and ended in a C-section 2 days later.

@erinpye: It was so cool, it really was the cherry on top of the experience that was my very cool, very healing waterbirth. My only regret is that I had my head buried in the side of the birthing tub and didn't see it. By the time I flipped over they had her out of it, so I never got to experience it.

DD1: Broke on the nurse's hand while doing a cervical check, maybe 2 hours before I started pushing. I had already been at the hospital for hours though. I didn't feel it break and wouldn't have known but he nurse told me.
DD2: Broke while I was helping big sister brush her teeth before bedtime. I felt it and knew what had happened immediately. Hard contractions started very quickly.

DS - it broke while I was sitting on the toilet peeing. It was very convenient!
DD - it broke when I was sitting down on DS's bed to read him a story "mama made and accident"!

I was asleep. It was more of a trickle and didn't wake me up, ctx woke me up. I got up and walked around the house a bit because I wasn't sure it was my water. Thought it might just be gross end of pregnancy discharge. But after a bit it was unmistakable! And I was having awful contractions too.

@travellingbee: idk if this counts as spontaneous but we had just checked into the hospital and I was getting set up in bed! Water broke during an especially bad contraction and somehow I had forgotten that happens and was shocked haha.

my waters broke spontaneously with each kiddo and was the start of labor for both.
DD1: broke after i woke up in the morning, went to the bathroom and went to put my leggings to go for a walk. luckily over our wood floors, not our new rug! kept having smaller gushes, so finally just put a huge pad on and slip on shoes to walk as i wasn't contracting and wanted to get stuff going.
DD2: broke as i sat down over the toilet at 11 pm. i was restless and as i squatted, it broke a bit. contractions started immediately that time. -
Sleeping

DS: Sleeping. I knew right away that's what it was and quickly got up and rushed to the bathroom.
DD: It broke when I was somewhere between 8-10cm in the hospital. I ended up pushing almost right away and DD was born a few mins later. -
I had just woken up and was lying in bed for a few moments.

Lay in the hospital bed! The dr broke it for me.

I was on the hospital bed. Both times the doctor had to break it.

On the toilet in the middle of the night. I was not sure what it was at first, but I called because it was so bloody. By the time we got to the hospital a few hours later, I was pretty sure it was my water, because I was starting to have mild contractions, and it would gush when I stood up or had a contraction.

DD1 - It broke when I went to pee and put my gown on right after we got to the hospital
DD2 - The midwife broke it after I only progressed 1cm in 4 hours on pitocin

I was sitting on the floor in our living room on my computer. I was going to be induced the next morning and had given up any hope of going into labor! Water broke at 9:20 pm and contractions started around midnight. It broke in spurts though and I didn't realize there would be so much fluid!

Out on a walk! I thought I must have just peed my pants (although I never had before), until it kept leaking and I lost my mucus plug...(41+ weeks and took a while for labor to start after)

It was 2:30 am. I noticed it had broken after I got up to pee - not sure whether it broke while I was sleeping or when I got up.

Lying in bed, on my due date, wondering when the little babe would make his/her appearance.

I was in my bed sleeping/trying to sleep both times.

I was already admitted to the hospital and was standing up to breathe through a big contraction! It got my comfy socks all gross
