If it broke spontaneously, what were you doing? Were you at home? Out? Asleep?

DD1- I had been in labor all night already, was getting settled in the hospital with the midwives when it broke with a big pop and gush. No mistaking it at all.
DD2- It was during the 15-20 minutes of pushing that I did. It definitely sprayed the midwives and nurses! She was born minutes later.

DS I was sleeping, it was around 4 AM
DD I was going to pee before watching a movie, it was good timing and much better than if I was on the couch!

My doc had to break mine with the hook, while I was in labor, both times.

I was laying in bed before I went to sleep. I had what I thought was a contraction and then heard a pop and it started gushing. Very cliche lol

The only person I know who had their water break spontaneously before labor had it happen at night, and it was more of a leak that woke her up at 3am... she went back to sleep thinking she had an accident, got up to shower at 6, and was still leaking so she concluded it was her water breaking.

I was 38w6d and I was at home. Had just finished dinner and had 15 minutes until TWD finale was on so I was cleaning up. I thought I had started to pee my pants so I went to the bathroom and it just kept coming. We didn't get to watch our show that night, which was funny because my DH kept saying all week that he could come anytime after Sunday night. No contractions or any signs of labor before hand.

I woke up from a nap and was on my way to the bathroom when I had a huge gush. DH was outside installing our car seat!

I was asleep. It was 4am & I felt a pop. I sat bolt upright knowing exactly what was happening (somehow) & shuffled to the bathroom before the gush. I was relieved to catch all the gushes in the toilet. Within a few minutes I was able to go let DH know what was happening & start getting ready to head to the hospital.

@GoGoSnoGirl: same thing here! At 3am. No idea why I woke up, but I jumped out of bed and sprinted to the bathroom and nothing got on my sheets or three floor. One gush and I assumed my water had broken, but was just barely waking up and a little confused. Second gush a few min later and I was finally convinced. Went to the hospital a few hours later, the gushed kept happening every few min until she was born.

I had been in bed for about 10 minutes, I'd stayed up late, knowing I wasn't going to be able to fall asleep. I felt a different feeling contraction (felt like my entire midsection was being pulled down) right when I laid down. Then I felt another, similar one 10 minutes later, followed by a popping sensation. I just knew it was my water, jumped out of bed, and thankfully got to the bathroom just in time.

Laying down in bed! I had just told my husband how miserable I was (39+5 and had a horrible cough) right before bed, and he was reassuring me that it wouldn't be like that forever. I rolled my eyes, hoisted my legs up into bed, laid back, and my water broke.

I was finishing up a photo book at about 9pm and just going to start a movie with DH. I was in denial until contractions started an hour later. LO was born 12 hours later!

Sleeping. Specifically in the middle of a dream where I was yelling at my little sister lol.

With my first son I was carrying my daughter in for bath time (she was sitting on my bump!)
With my last son, I was about to go pee and my water broke into the toilet. I knew it was my water after I laid down for a half an hour and it flowed out of me (once again in the bathroom!)

With my first I was sleeping. The sound of the pop was so loud I literally jumped out of bed thinking it was a gunshot next to my head. There was no mistaking what was happening as it gushed like a waterfall.
With my second I was in my labor and delivery room when it happened.

Mine didn't break spontaneously either time, but with DD I was SO paranoid it was going to break at work!
DS: Broken by a resident at 9cm
DD: C-section

I was laboring on my couch. Thankfully, we had a towel down and I was still wearing pants!!

I was asleep, it was 3 in the morning. I felt a little pop and I thought my EPO capsule had popped! (TMI?) There was a light gush, but I was in complete denial, since I completely was prepared to go to 42 weeks and I was just at 39. I stuck a towel between my legs and went back to sleep. After two more gushes, I woke up DH. Around 8 am we called my OB. Around 11 am I was admitted to the hospital. 24 hours later, DS was born.

@hellobeeboston: if you're already in water, how did you know it broke?

@travellingbee: OMG I felt it! It was like a pop, then there was a gush (that I felt even with the jets in the tub), and my belly felt lighter and less taught! I also had some meconium in the water so it was discolored and you could see it. I got out of the tub shortly after to get into the bed and get my epi and the water was still pouring out, it was nuts!

I was in the middle of my induced labor, sitting in bed, talking to mom. I felt something weird and it even sounded weird on her monitors and I asked my mom "did you hear that?" *nod* "that didn't feel like a regular kick....did I just pee? Oh! My water broke!" lol

I had been having sporadic early labour contractions for a day and my midwives had just left my house after telling me it wasn't "true" labour. They urged me to have a snack, take a gravol and have a nap. I was just starting to doze off when it broke!
