Today at work my boss gave me a totally out of the blue $1000 bonus for working super hard the past 6 months and doing more than my share to help our team out.
I'm usually SUPER practical with money, and squirrel everything towards paying down our mortgage, but this time I feel like I should do something for myself with at least some of the money!
Would love to know what YOU would do if you randomly got $1000 and didn't have to use it toward debt.

In reality... Put it towards debt/mortgage/save it.
In my fantasy land... Buy several high quality, really versatile clothing items that would spruce up my extremely drab wardrobe.

totally spend it on yourself! book yourself some time at the hair salon, mani-pedi, spa treatment, maybe clothes/shoes/make up. you deserve it if you've been working so hard!

I think I would give myself a small part of it on fun new clothes for me and the baby. The rest would be put into our vacation fund.

Ooh, if I put it into our vacation fund though ib think I would mentally earmark it for something in particular though, like a splurge night at an amazing hotel or a cool meal etc and spend some time researching it.

When DH gets his bonus we usually save half and put half towards something fun like a trip. So that's what I would do!

We just booked an anniversary weekend away that's going to be a little more expensive than planned, so I'd put it towards that probably. Or ear mark it for a monthly cleaning lady starting now and going through the newborn months. Maybe buy a few things I want for the new baby but that we don't actually need.

DH did an extra side job and got a similar amount, we took a mini family trip for a few days and had a great time! We saved the rest.
Congrats on your bonus! I Would probably get something nice for yourself, and then save or put towards debt if applicable.

Awesome! I'd save most then maybe have a fun date + local overnight trip with the hubby. Entertainment, expensive yummy meal, drinks, fun hotel, breakfast out...

@HappyBaker: Congrats! If it were my DH, he would spend every penny. If if were me, I would want to put it toward the mortgage. However, I think you should do something with some of it. Is there anything you've always wanted but haven't gotten because it was too expensive or frivolous? Like a really nice handbag or something. I would spend some of the money on that and save the rest. Let us know what you decide!

This has happened to me in the past and I always put like 2/3 to our saving/vacation fund and from the other third buy something just for myself like a handbag, pair of shoes or gadget. Sometimes I put it towards concert tickets.

So fun! I would definitely set aside some fun money for myself as a treat! If I had fun money to blow right now, I would do a Stitch Fix round or upgrade my makeup from drugstore brands to Sephora brands

You guys have such great ideas, thanks! I think I'm going to do the following with it:
Semi Practical
- buy new bras now that I'm done BFing babies
- sign up for a picky eating seminar to hopefully help set my 3 year old up for eating more than mac & cheese every night!
Splurge
- start a babysitter fund jar so we can have more date nights
- get a pedicure
And I'll save the rest!

Because you said no debt, I would use some of it for fall clothes for the family, a new living room rug, and to replace our screen door that has been sticking. So, household stuff and clothes. Or I would stick it in our "we desperately need new carpet" fund.

Congrats on the bonus! You earned it! Therefore you should totally use some of it on yourself like a salon day (mani/pedi, massage, facial, etc.) or new clothes or purse you've been eyeing!

Hmmm. I don't know!!
A. Take a mini vacation
B. Buy a bunch of nice new clothes that fit well.
C. Put it towards bills
D. Buy a new clothes dryer (and fork up more for a new washer also!)
Probably a mix of B and C..
