relatives who are technically an aunt and uncles who are only ages 6, 8, and 9. My husband is one of 7 and his youngest siblings are that age. Our oldest is 2 and knows them by first name alone since that is what we refer to them as. It seems to bother MIL who calls them "uncle ____" and "aunt _____" but it drives us crazy because their relationship is far more of a cousin relationship. They all play toys together, etc. They in no way act like aunts and uncles -- they are children who also need correction and instruction from adults.

The other day DH told MIL they were more like cousins instead of the traditional aunt and uncle relationship (in an attempt to try and get them to stop correcting our LO's unnecessarily) and she said "yeah, not really" which we thought was odd.

Just wondering if anyone has been in this situation and, even if not, what you'd have your LOs call their young relatives.
