DH has a relative that have three kids, age 7, 6, and 1. Ever since the first was born, the mom acted like children were the biggest burden. Yet she went on to have 2 more....anyways...
We were at their house this weekend and she spent the entire time yelling at or complaining about her kids. Mind you, she has a loving, supportive husband and full-time live-in help, so there are plenty of mothers who are in much worse/stressful situations. I'm not saying she doesn't have the right to complain, I'm just saying that maybe we should put things into perspective here....
One comment in particular rubbed me so wrong. In front of her 7 an 6 year old, she said "On Friday, my coworkers tell me they're sorry that the weekend is coming up because I have to be home all day with the kids and can't escape to work."
I didn't say anything at the time but now I wish I had. I don't want to ruffle any feathers with DH's family, but come on! You CHOSE to become a mother 3x over, and to make your children feel like a burden is unacceptable!
Would you have said something in this situation? If so, what?
