I just finished Fates and Furies last week (which was phenomenal!) and the new Harry Potter over the weekend. Now I'm reading the second book in the Miss Peregrine series.

@twodoghouse: I think we have the same taste! How're you liking the 2nd peregrine book? I liked the 1st better but still looking forward to reading the 3rd one!

I'm reading the last Harry Potter book before reading the new hp script. Then I want to jump into the peregrine series too!

@twodoghouse: yeah there were just a few slow spots in the middle, for me anyway!

Just finished reading the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. Desperately wish that I didn't have to wait until September for the next installment!

I started the new Harry Potter book last night.

I finished "Cursed Child" this morning. It was a huge disappointment. The story felt manipulative in a way that the books never did, and some of the ways that the original characters developed are inconsistent with who they were by the end of the books, even allowing for the intervening 19 years. I'm sure the play is fun to watch with all the visual flourishes (which I imagine are incredible), but that stuff is not what makes a play great.
I still love the Harry Potter books. I'll happily buy all of the rest of the illustrated versions as they come out for LO and I'm rather looking forward to "Fantastic Beasts." But I'm going to take "Cursed Child" back to the library today and, after it's down the chute, I plan to forget all about it.

I'm reading the 5th in a series of mysteries about a female detective in Victorian England by Deanna Raybourn. This one is called The Dark Enquiry.

I'm reading Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. Almost finished. It isn't bad, but I liked Gone Girl and Sharp Objects by her better.
Also, Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child. We're gearing up to sleep train in a month or so and I'm reading and researching everything I can before then.

@Bao: It. Is. Amazing. I am seriously in love with the author and I actually started by reading her other series before this one. Her other series is newer, A Court of Thorn and Roses, and after reading her second book in -that- series I had to have more. I hate cliffhangers but they're such good cliffhangers

@Mrs. Grizzly Bear: I have ACOTAR! I haven't read it yet, though. I have her other series sitting on my goodreads to read shelf, I have so many other books to read first! So do the two series intertwine? Or does it not matter which series of hers is read first?

@Mrs. Grizzly Bear: Also impatiently waiting for the next book!
I'm half ways through the last book in the Red Rising Series, Morning Star.
Next up is The Room by Emma Donaghue.

@josina: I LOVED Room! How is the Red Rising series? I own the first one but haven't read it yet.

@Bao: They're completely seperate so feel free to read ToG whenever you get a chance. But after you read ACOTAR, make sure you read book two - A Court of Mist and Fury. It's stunning. Have you checked out the author's Pinterest account? She has boards for the fan art for the books and let me just say - fangirlsquee!!

@Bao: I do like the series a lot but maybe a little too sci-fi for me with all the space stuff. It gets confusing to keep track of who is who in the book also. But I got far enough in that I couldn't put them down either.

Slogging my way through After You. Ugh, can't get into it, I cruised through Me Before You and loved it! May take a break for the new Harry Potter, but mostly I read for 30 seconds before drooling and snoring.

@winter_wonder: I'll be interested to hear what you thought of it! I've liked all her previous books but I hated this one.

@csross217: Oh dear, I did not like Dark Places at all. When I was done, I wished that I had never read it, to be honest. Way too graphic for my tastes.
I just finished Liane Moriarty's new book, Truly Madly Guilty. It was just okay. I didn't care for it as much as some of her other books. I picked up The Hypnotist's Love Story for another light pre-bedtime read, but I'm not far enough along to make a judgment yet. I'm hoping to finish The Nightingale next.

I recently read The Girls, and while I wouldn't call it 5 star it was really well written, fun to read, and thought provoking for me.
Now I'm reading the girl with the dragon tattoo, which I somehow still hadn't read after all this time.

I'm just about done with Dragonfly In Amber, the second of the Outlander books. I am liking it better than the first Outlander book for sure. I want to watch the series!

@erinbaderin: I just finished it, I liked it! Not my favorite of her books, but still good I thought. What didn't you like?

I need some recommendations, I read only non fiction and my favorite little bookshop closed, plus the bookstore in town is now a liquor mart.

@winter_wonder: I didn't like the characters! Josie I found confusing - she's the wild child disappointment who's also a first grade teacher and desperately wants a baby? And I didn't get her relationship with Gabe, I found it inconsistent. And Meredith was horrible and unpleasant and I wanted her to fall in a manhole. I thought things were introduced and dropped (Gabe's girlfriend hated her and then...didn't!) and I thought the whole ending with everybody furious at her for what happened was ridiculous.
Sorry, that turned into a rant!
persimmon / 1479 posts
@erinbaderin: Lol! I thought Josie and have were somehow going to end up together. I didn't like how entitled Meredith seemed

@Pancakes: ditto on Dark Places! Loved Gone Girl, but it had more mystery and finesse. Dark Places just seemed, well, dark!

I'm reading "Uprooted" right now - if you like fantasy and strong female characters, you won't be able to put it down.
