The general rule is that there IS no pattern for a newborn ; )
The first month, babies usually feed every 2-3 hours, including at night...and that's 2-3 hours from the start of one feeding to the start of the next. My son usually was up every 2 hours the first few weeks at least and then started sleeping in 3 hour stretches. At 8w he sleeps in 4 and 3 hour stretches at night (but he's small...most babies at 8w will sleep for longer stretches than that....)

No pattern whatsoever.
In order to convince our baby to sleep for longer stretches at night, we always made sure to wake her to eat at least every 3 hours during the day, and we tried to provide a bit more stimulation for her during the day. At night, we let her sleep, and when she woke for feedings we tried to keep things as low-key as possible so she could understand that nighttime is for sleeping, not playing.

@winniebee: @skibobrown: hahah LOVE it.
@mrsjyw: Accept that there is no pattern. You WILL drive yourself crazy trying to figure one out and comparing to other infants. I know it's hard not to though!

My LO woke up every 2 hrs for the first month but once she hit the 6 week mark she slept for 6-8 hrs at night without waking for a feed. Now at 15 weeks she sleeps through the night usually 9-7!
