I can't think of anything that stands out above everything else I've ever written... will have to think about it some more.
What's the best or most powerful piece of writing you've ever written?

Hmm. I wrote a pretty emotional poem once that was published. I think that would probably be it.

Hmm... I write a lot of scientific writing. Boring for the average reader, but I did write a News & Views piece in Nature once, which is intended to be readable by more of a popular audience. I was rather proud of that piece.

My graduation thesis haha....NOT. That just barely got me graduated.
I wrote a paper on Edgar Allen Poe (an analysis of a few of his well known pieces) in my undergrad at some point...and I was damn proud of it. My professor called me the night he was grading papers just to tell me how great it was. THAT MADE MY WEEK:)

@TurtleDoves: Wow, your professor called you? You must've gone to a great school with great teachers!!

@mrbee: Honestly? The professors in the English department are all very personable at our school. I minored in English and I knew all my professors personally. I can't say that for the rest of the professors I had.

So cliche, but probably my masters thesis...it was on teaching the culture of power to urban students. Don't know how I managed to write it just after my ex-fiance broke up with me! I was a blubbering mess. My professor was nice and told me he wanted me to get it published, but I was too chicken.

My last grocery list.
Nah, just kidding, but I am a really terrible writer...

I write by trade, is that cheating?
-We wrote our entire ceremony, it got rave reviews.
-I was a reporter for a short period of time and wrote a story on an old blind couple. I got to spend the day with them.
-I write poetry, a few that were about women/social issues were published.

Like @mrsjazz, I'm a writer by trade...but I would have to say that my BEST work happened in kindergarten. I wrote this completely brilliant story about a ghost and juice. I think I've been in creative decline ever since!

I haven't done much writing. Didn't even do a thesis for my masters, I did a special project instead. Didn't write my own vows. I'm more into visual arts.

I wrote a technical piece in college for a national essay contest. I ended up winning and won an all-expenses paid trip to Italy for 2 weeks. It was ridiculously fabulous and I felt awesome.

Writer by trade too.... I think the best pieces i've written are on issues I feel passionately about like organ donation and pieces I did where I spent the day with people like drug addicts and the homeless that changed people's perception. I also ran a campaign when I was a health reporter that paid for a children's high dependency unit at the local hospital... Lots of emotional stuff to tug on people's heartstrings...

I guess I'd say my birth story- maybe only powerful to me but definitely the most emotional thing I've ever written!

I don't write a lot, but I wrote a paper for English my freshman year, and he used it as an example paper for the next 3 years and showed it to all of his classes. 8)
I should write more so that my high school paper isn't the highlight of my career!

Writing is a big part of my job; which I love. I do a lot of persuasive writing; so every time we “win” based on my writing; I feel pretty awesome! (But that stuff would be pretty boring for anyone outside of my professional arena…)
One of the pieces of writing I’m most proud of is that I wrote/created an informational pamphlet that was targeted towards young, first time mothers who might not be aware of their parenting rights/resources because of where they are in life. The pamphlet advised these women of their legal parental rights (as well as those of their baby’s father as there are a lot of misconceptions about parental rights), and it also contained information and contact info for social welfare programs like TANF, WIC, heating assistance, legal assistance, parenting classes, daycare support, state funded health insurance programs, Section 8 (housing assistance), etc.
It ended up being used by several hospitals in our area as part of the kit given to new mothers; and also was available at legal aid offices and a few doctors’ offices.
I do a lot of creative writing as well; and some pieces I've written to deal with things I've gone through in my past were very powerful to me personally.

Yeah, I guess my wedding vows (is it bad I didn't even think of that?).
In college, I wrote a feature article for our school paper about a neighborhood that was being forced to gentrify by a local alderman (it was in Chicago). It was a big mess that involved a historical district being created in the wrong area, a burned down landmark bar that should have had historical status that was being shut down rather than replenished, a lot of angry residents who were never consulted about the project, and a lot of stagnant construction with big names attached to it. I ended up winning a big student journalism award because of it and got to go to San Francisco and compete further with a lot of other awesome student journalists, and got 3rd place and won a scholarship and everything. So I guess that's the piece I'm most proud of.

@ms.janedoe: that is so awesome...actually lots of awesomeness all over this thread....I just get excited about trips to Italy.
I wrote a portfolio and took timed assessments to gain national teaching certification and got paid 5 to 10 grand more each year for ten years because I passed. Just finished the renewal so now I am reinstated for another ten years.
