The craziest I've ever heard is definitely the side of the road birth story by our very own @matador84!
She had her baby on the side of the road and her friend caught the baby!

A relative of mine gave birth in her own bathtub rather unexpectedly! She'd been having contractions for days with her first and was told by her doctor to get in the tub to slow them down or see if they intensified. They had always shown down so this time she got in and they didn't seem to intensify or slow down so she called her husband to come get her, thinking it was the real deal.
He arrived home to her and baby! They were just fine. I guess things just happened really quickly and she was shocked but handled it all well.

I thought my almost side of the road birth was crazy until the nurse told me the week prior that someone had delivered at a gas station 
I read that in San Diego the last baby born in 2015 and first baby born in 2016 were twins. Not totally crazy but pretty unique to have twins born in different years!

After Matador, I know two people who gave birth in the ER because they didn't have time to get to L&D. My mom, with her second- my dad was running red lights to get to the hospital and hoping to get pulled over so they'd have a police escort or a police officer could deliver the baby. They made it but as soon as they got to the ER my mom started pushing even though they were telling her to wait.
And similar thing just happened to a friend of mine- the nurses were shouting into the hall for a doctor to come in and catch the baby. Also a second baby.

One of my friends had a crazy delivery. She was induced and things seemed to be going fine. She got an epidural but they couldn't get it to work right (only covered one side of her body). Then, once she got to pushing, they realized that her uterus was contracting the wrong direction (each contraction was pulling the baby back up into the body instead of pushing him out). The doctors had never seen it outside of textbooks before.
So they sent her for a c-section. While they were prepping her in the OR, a code blue was called on another patient and she was left alone in the OR at 10 cm. Meanwhile, her husband is waiting to be brought to the OR and hears the code blue and then their doctor's name and thinks that is his wife who is coding! She and the baby both ended up being fine but they had an awful hospital experience.

My friend delivered his wife's baby in the middle of their living room. She basically had one contraction and next thing you know the baby was already crowning. He was in the phone with 911 and they walked him through it. By the time the ambulances reached the house he already delivered the baby. This was with their first too!

Matador for sure.
Then my SIL who had her third boy on her bathroom floor the day before Christmas Eve. She realised she was in labour, called her bro (who literally lives down the road) to come watch her kids so she could get to hospital but before he got there she realised she had to push. BIL was worried about his new carpets so told her to go into the bathroom where he delivered the baby himself, rubbed it down and suctioned its airways. Their two-year-old saw the whole thing. Then their four-year-old walked in and said, "oh! It's baby Jesus!"

My SIL's best friend gave birth to her second in the bathtub. Started having contractions on top of each other, called the midwife who told her to get in the tub. The midwife had just gotten there when the baby was born.

Someone I knew in England had the doctor screaming at her that she was a failure and she wasn't trying hard enough while she was trying to push. It turns out her daughter's head was wedged in her pelvis.... So yeah. Military doctors suck.

I have a family member that hid her whole pregnancy and gave birth in the garage (while everyone was home and still asleep) and then wrapped the baby up and drove to her grandma's house 30 minutes away. And then gave her baby up for adoption for three days and then got him back!
This was almost 30 years ago and everyone swears that she never looked pregnant! No one even suspected it. She was 18 and had just gotten dumped my her highschool sweetheart and was in denial of the pregnancy.

but i also recently watched a video on VBAC facebook group that showed a woman giving birth in the passenger seat while her husband was driving! that was pretty crazy too.

Ha! Reading all these comments crack me up. I missed the email getting tagged somehow!
I haven't heard any birth stories (yet) crazier than my own...people still like to laugh about it and ask me about it pretty often, they heard that I was "the lady that delivered standing up on the side of the road!"

DH's grandmother had surprise twins (she had 8 other births!!) ... I LOVED hearing her recount the birth. They had no idea there were two babies!

Definitely Matador. I was telling people about that in my Centering Pregnancy group, when everyone was discussing a birth at our hospital that occurred a month before we were all due. The couple was in the skybridge walking from the parking garage into the hospital and gave birth right there. So close!
Mine was so fast that our doula missed the birth entirely (first time in over 50 births she's attended), but that's only a tiny bit crazy.

I know someone who did the same, had a bath thought it was time to go to the hospital and get checked. They pull into emergency, and she needs to push. Her husband ran inside to grab someone to help, in the mean time she was in the car pushing. He came back out to the car just in time to catch the baby. Their 7 year old daughter was in the back seat, as her mum was meeting them there to collect her. She cheered her mum on instead.
Another friend delivered at home not intentionally. Her husband had gone to the footy about an hour away, while he was gone she started getting contractions. She called her SIL and her midwife, and was going to go to the hospital. The SIL came to pick her up, she got to her just as the baby was crowing! She delivered a 9.something pound baby at home in her bathroom, and her poor hubby missed it!

@Foodnerd81: that happen with my SIL with Her second. I was with her. They had to just grab a random doctor from the hall to come deliver my niece, because she was crowning as we checked in.

New Year's Day we did an eco tour and the security guard for the veg/ fruit market we met at kept us company while we waited for everyone to arrive. He regaled us with a story when he worked in pest control and delivered a baby in a laundromat that he was there to spray.

My own. My dad didn't believe my mom that she was in labor. They had to drive 45 min to the hospital and she was laboring the whole time. They got to the hospital about ten minutes before I was born and ran into an empty room. The nurse yelled at them to get out but then she realized what was going on. My dad delivered me! He is a doctor, but not an OB. The doctor showed up after I was born.

@pastemoo: that's crazy! But totally believable. I can't tell you how many times my grandma told me to never try to go poop during labor and if I had to I should bring a nurse in with me. I can't believe her mom wasnt in any pain!

A friend woke up with a stomach ache, went to her GI doctor, doctor sent her to the ER, ER discovered the stomach ache was really labor pains - for a pregnancy she didn't have a clue about, then she delivered the surprise baby that night.
I also had a friend deliver baby #3 vaginally after checking in for her scheduled C-section.

The extra crazy part is, the neighbor mentioned in the story, graduated high school with my sister. We grew up 2 hours from Philly! So I lived in Philly, was hearing/reading about this story all over, and turns out it's a kid who grew up in my home town! So weird.

My mom's friend's daughter, who was in high school at the time. I don't know if I believe it or not, but the girl claimed she had no idea she was pregnant. She and her mom just thought she had gained some weight. One day, she felt sick to her stomach and stayed home from school. Apparently at some point, it got really bad so she called her boyfriend and asked him to come over when he finished school. She ended up having her baby in her bed with only her boyfriend to help. By the time my mom's friend got home from work, her grandchild had already been born. She was in shock.
