Just curious because I see a lot of pricey bags in the diaper bag thread. I personally spend only $25 on my bag. I wouldnt spend more than $50 maximum.

We spent just under $50, which was more than I had planned on, but we got a $130 diaper bag so I felt like it was a good deal. My original plan was to cash in my credit card rewards for Zappos gift cards and pay just a little bit of difference, but then MIL gave us store credit at Vera Bradley that I felt like I should use. I wish I had the resources to spend tons of money on a diaper bag!

I think it depends on if you're a person that likes to have more than one bag or if you want to have one bag you will use daily for a couple years. If you're replacing a bargain bag all the time, then it may not be such a bargain, but it could be a good excuse to switch it up with a new one I'm going to vote 150-200, because you can get a great, high quality bag that will last. I won't have the budget to spend more than that & while they might be awesome, I don't think you're gaining much as far as quality at that point.

I originally bought a Petunia Pickle Bottom bag on sale for $180. I must have lost my mind. Anyways, i returned it a couple of days later and use a North Face computer bag that i got for $35. I also use a Jujube wristlet that fits diaper essentials and shove it into my handbag. No matter how nice a bag is, i still think it looks like a diaper bag!

@caffeinated: Haha your post made me laugh out loud.
@mrs. bird: True I guess, but some "bargaing" bags do last very long too. It depends on the brand, and the fabric and construction or the bag.

It is not in my budget to spend more than 50$.. if someone were to get me a more expensive one, I wouldn't say no but we just don't have the moola for expensive bags, unfortunately! Someday...

I would have to say $200+ . If I really loved a bag and it happened to cost over $200, I would buy it.I would also buy a $25 bag if I really loved it. If it is something I am wearing often and I will enjoy it - I dont mind spending the $$

I spent over $200 on both mine and my husband's bags. I'd buy mine again in a heartbeat, and my husband does enjoy using his, though he doesn't have the kiddo as often as I do. But both of our bags should last multiple pregnancies and will likely be passed on to other family members at some point. Personally, I cannot wait until I can downsize into a purse sized bag or not have to carry one at all.
I think it really just depends on the individual. I know lots of people who use old book bags and also people who have spent $500+ on a bag. I'm guessing if you're the kind of person who doesn't like to spend hundreds on your every day purse, you're definetly not going to spend it on a diaper bag.

$50,which is more then I spent. Its a bag that gets a lot of use so I understand wanting a nice one.... to a point.

$150. I'd get a Kate Spade diaper bag during one of their sales for $150 or less, or use my large Longchamp with an diaper bag insert organizer.

I'd spend $200+. I carry nice bags in general and wanted a nice bag. Plus, you carry diapers for a couple of years, so it's worth it to have something I like. I budget in many areas of my life, but I always carry a nice bag. I have two diaper bags: a kate spade and a petunia pickle bottom, plus we registered DH for a diaper dude

My budget was $200. I like nice handbags so I wanted a nice diaper bag as well. I got my at the Kate Spade outlet for $125 so I was happy.

I think I'd spend around $200 max. I got my PPB for just under $100 and was really pleased with that as a deal! The T&L one is a gift so...
I think it depends on how much you will use the diaper bag and if in general your handbag/purse is important to you. I know most moms just end up using their diaper bags as their one-and-only-bag for close to 2 years. I love a good purse/bag waaay too much to be schlepping [what I'd consider] an eyesore for that long. I know I'll be out and about with the bag & stroller all the time so it was important to me that I have something I liked. I also have friends who could care less about what the diaper bag looked like and would carry all their stuff in a grocery bag for all it mattered, it didn't mean anything to them.

Mine was around $150, but it was A) a gift and B) actually a camera bag so it's getting a lot of use. Also, it's adorable.

I voted $150-$200 because I've spent that much. Bags are important to me! When I was a SAHM that was my splurge for myself since I used it every single day. I didn't buy work clothes, shoes, or bags for two years.
My everyday bag is currently a large Longchamp tote. I used it a few times as a diaper bag and I regret it because ONE leaky bottle and bag it was in caused a huge water stain that I have never been able to get rid of fully (my bag is chocolate brown). This is why I tell my mommy-to-be friends to NEVER use their everyday bags as diaper bags and to find a diaper bag that is very structured and stays standing when you set it down.

@mrs. wagon: Oh the horror! That's a big fear of why I wouldn't want to use my LV Neverfull, even though people tell me it makes a great diaper bag. I'd be so pissed at myself if I ruined it with a leaky bottle, or worse yet, a diaper!

@shopaholic: yep.... any time I hear of someone buying a neverfull or using the one they have as a diaper bag I cringe a little. Honestly, I am the neatest, most careful person ever and just ONE moment by someone else not being careful with the way a bottle was placed in my bag (when my baby was freaking out and someone else was trying to help out by packing up my bottle) and my $170 Longchamp was basically ruined. Can't imagine how I'd feel if it was an LV!!!!!!

Weeeeellll, I'm only 12 weeks and I've already bought two Kate Spade diaper bags. I think I was just excited about being pregs. But I'm looking forward to using both!
DH was kinda like, " explain to me why you need two expensive diaper bags?"
And I was like, um..... They're adorable?

I was going to buy a cheap one,... then ended up getting nothing.
Finally at 5 months pp I realized I needed a purse that was suitable for diapers as well--I needed to feel professional and put together when out. I ended up budgeting $200 for a bag and may have gone over if I had found one but lucked out with one under $150.
I use it every day and it actually helped my self esteem. Some of the best money I've spent!

Yeah, my jaw kind of dropped when I was looking through the diaper bag thread. Those are some really pricey bags! I don't know, I guess I just don't "get" the value of a $400 purse, but I have several friends who love them. I guess maybe if I had the cash, I'd feel differently, though.
ETA: FWIW, my wardrobe still mostly consists of F21 and Old Navy. So...

More than $200 if I was in love with the bag!

@Anagram: Lucky! My DH would have said "explain to me why you need a diaper bag?" Men!!

I have a Kate spade. I think it cost 250ish?
Back when I was single and childless I bought a Gucci diaper bag for 900 bucks. I kept it for a couple of years in my closet, realized how sad and pathetic I was and returned it.
Luckily Neiman Marcus had a great return policy.

Our main diaper bag was around $60 including a monogram. Honestly, that was pushing it for me. I'd rather spend less than $50. I also have a Vera Bradley diaper bag with the changing pad that I found for $20 at a consignment store.

My Storksak was around $200. I used it for both girls though... I even used it as a regular work bag sometimes in between kids. Right now I'm using my Rebecca Minkoff MAM (worth $550 i think?) as semi-diaper bag. My youngest is 18 months now so she doesn't need much. I keep things in the car/stroller and carry around a separate snack bag.

I'd pay for what I want. I have a coach I got on sale for $89, and a Mia Bossi on sale for $200. I also bought DH a ppb Scout for $200. They're all quality leather bags. I love me some bags!

I love carrying a beautiful purse so it was worth it to me to get a diaper bag I would love since I didn't think I'd be able to carry a purse anymore! I found a Storksak that I loved and bought it on sale for under $200 but I was willing to pay up to $300 if I found something more expensive.

I said $150-$200. I've always had a thing for more expensive purses, so I guess I don't see this as being much different.
cantaloupe / 6751 posts
Since it's something I'll use everyday for at least two years (or even longer, depending on if we have another kid), I splurged on a nicer, more expensive bag.
