Barbecue season is soon to be upon us! DH pulled out his barbecue yesterday and got it set up on the patio and requested steaks tonight so while prepping the marinade this morning it got me wondering about other good marinades.

We don't like marinades on our steaks! Just garlic salt and pepper grilled over charcoal. Mmmm

I'm simple - salt, pepper, garlic powder and a little dale's or moore's and always over charcoal

We buy a local steak sauce called Andrea's and it is SO SO SO GOOD. Otherwise, one of my favorites is a bulgolgi type marinade. Soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, sesame seeds, and green onions. I love asian everything. Pineapples are nice, too!

Never marinade! We always do a heavy layer of my husbands seasoning blend (I think it's just a bunch of basic spices) and a hot grill, gives it a great crust and a juicy inside.

We don't often marinade steaks, but for other things I really like Yoshida's from Costco.

We only marinade flank steak, but one marinade we love is lemon, soy sauce, garlic, onion and ginger.

Let it sit out at room temp for an hour or so. Baste with melted butter and salt and pepper. Steak that needs to be marinated like flank I just buy ready to go at Costco.

I'm with the others in that I don't generally marinade steaks other than flank. I do like the Montreal Stake seasoning blends--I think it's just salt, pepper, red pepper, and garlic powder.
One thing that I can't live without, though is chimichurri!! I LOVE spooning that stuff over my steak once it's done, so good. I make it with a bunch of parsley, a couple garlic cloves, a shake or two of oregano, red wine vinegar, salt, pepper, olive oil. Throw it in the food processor and serve it over EVERYTHING. My favorite condiment, by far (especially with steak!!)

Just olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt and Montreal steak seasoning!
Or sometimes we add lime, garlic and cilantro is we're having carne asada tacos.

I like barbecue sauce, call me crazy, I eat it with filet mignon.

Salt and pepper - that's it. DH makes great steaks.

So many good ideas in this thread! This thread is making me hungry and excited to go through our steaks throughout the summer. (We get half a cow each year so we wait all winter to use up the steaks!)

Montreal seasoning, olive oil, and Worchestershire sauce right before it hits the charcoal grill. Occasionally I swap the Montreal Seasoning for Costco's Mesquite Seasoning. Sometimes I eat it with A1 when its done, sometimes I love dunking bites into homemade balsamic vinaigrette.

We usually don't marinate unless it's a flank or skirt or something like that. BUT the times we have we either use Montreal steak seasoning. And sauté some mushrooms with the Montreal seasoning as well. Spoon the mushrooms overtop. Yum!
Also, our friends use Soy-Vay on flank and skirt steak. It is REALLY GOOD. Theyve got a couple flavors but we like the Very-Very-Teriyaki.

Also, this is making me sad because we can't grill! We only get to do it a couple times each summer at my inlaws. Boo.

90% of the time its salt, pepper and dried oregano on room temp meat. sometimes a tad of smoky paprika, sometimes black truffle salt.

Usual is cayenne and heavy dose of Montreal steak seasoning bc we like it spicy and garlicky
We also do lime, olive oil, vinegar, garlic and cilantro if we're doing carne asana
My favorite Asian style steak recipe for lettuce wraps is this - the scallion salad is a MUST - everyone I know loves this even when they think they are not adventurous eaters.
