i think i kept nursing a week past his first birthday. When I went back to work (11 months) I pumped for 3 shifts before saying screw it (hate pumping. hate). I'd nurse when we were together, and it took about a month for me to 'lose' my supply.
I just wanted to make it to his first birthday, so I was happy with what I achieved.

Nursing at 5 months and pumping at 6 months. LO battle the boob since about 3 months. Not sure if it was a supply issue or if she just didn't have the patience to nurse. When we gave her her first bottle of formula she drank like it was her last meal so i'm guessing it was a supply thing.

We're at 18 mths & no signs of weaning. I know I couldn't ever go down the parent-led weaning road so it's up to P..... no clue when that will be! lol

We're 11 months and she loves nursing. I want to TTC #2 though and my doctor doesn't think I'll get my period back unless I wean so with a very heavy heart, we'll be weaning at one year. I'm so sad about it but I'm sure when she's older she'll be happy that (hopefully!) she'll have a sibling.

I thought I answered this but I guess not. We lasted less than a week trying to actually bf, five or six pumping. Would have lasted longer but everything went nuts because of my ppd. If I do it next time around my goal will be 6 months...

I voted marshmallows just to see the results. I'm super impressed that the majority was a year plus. For us, I'll do everything I can to nurse to 6 months (3 months now), and if I can make it to a year I'll be happy. We'll likely wean around then since I go back to work after a year off, and don't feel like investing in the level of pumping equipment that might be required to pump frequently once she's in day care.

Im at 14 months and she nurses 2 times usually. I don't think she really gets much out during our sessions but it's more of a comfort thing for her. Since there's not a lot of supply left I am fine stopping at anytime. As soon as she stops asking (pulling my shirt down!) We will be done. I think it will be a gradual process over the next few months.

hcaI nursed with half a supply and supplemented the rest until 8 months. She was so incredibly disinterested in nursing that after I stopped offering she never once asked for it again. From then on I EPd, but again only for about half her intake. That kept up until 10 months or so and my supply has decreased to the point that she is only getting one bottle of BM per day. I have 9 bags in the freezer so once we are 9 days from her birthday i am going to quit pumping. I just really want her to have breastmilk every day of her first year. We are a month away now. I hope my body continues to produce those few ounces until then. But it is obviouthat this process is coming to a close in every sense.

    @Mrs. Twine: that's amazing!

For LO #1 it was 7 months. He was heavily supplemented with formula and gradually refused to nurse. I was only able to pump a total of less than an ounce a day in total. At that point I called it quits cause it was a pitiful amt:) we also wanted to get pregnant again -- it worked cause LO #2 was conceived a few weeks later:)

With #2 we are currently at 4 weeks old.... I did everything 'right' this time and still he didn't gain any weight (and lost lots) the first two weeks. He's bf, ff, and ebm righ now-- I saw a bf'ing specialist doctor/LC and even she thinks I may actually never be able to ebf.... We will see!

I gave DD her first bottle in the hospital so I could go home, after a 6 day stay. She wasn't feeding and they insisted they had to keep me in until she was... and as she couldn't latch due to her tongue tie, my flat nipples and her tiny size, it just wasn't going to happen any time soon and I was so exhausted, I HAD to go home. It was downhill from there I guess....

We made an appointment to have her tongue tie clipped and I tried to pump and kept offering her the breast in the meantime. My nipples were so mashed they would bleed into her mouth but she wasn't getting any milk out. The pump would get maybe a teaspoon full of colostrum out of the course of an hours pumping session. My milk never actually came in. I never felt the "let down". Then the mastitis happened... in both breasts simultaneously. Ten days of agony, pumping (and dumping) pus....

Then, the day before LO's tongue tie appointment it happened: I pumped nothing. Nothing came out. My breastfeeding journey was over.

I later found out - when I passed it at 10 weeks pp - that i had a small piece of retained placenta. That's right, I had to pass it for them to believe that the prolonged bleeding, cramping, passing clots, cold sweating and generally feeling awful was actually something. I stopped bleeding the day after I passed it (a lump of gristle-like tissue). I wonder now if that's why my milk never actually came in... (and its a miracle I didn't get very sick)

Bottle feeding has been fine, it really has. But sometimes, during night feeds, as I hold her close and bottle feed her, I do feel sad. I miss what we never had. I wonder if I could have tried harder.

DS stopped at 15 months. I was getting tired of it, and he wasn't crazy about it, so one week he got a cold, with a stuffy nose that made it hard for him to nurse. I used that as an opportunity to stop.

14.5 mos and we are about at the end of our journey I think. I'm letting him self-wean and he has been down to morning and evening and he didn't want to nurse the last two mornings. I'm happy with the way it worked out and am glad we were able to go this long.

@Mrs. Twine: Wow! That's awesome How does extended breastfeeding work when they're that old? Our pediatrician breastfed all of her babies until they each turned 5 years old. She says one of them would still be attached if she hadn't weaned, lol.

We are a few days short of 6 months I hope to make it a year & let her wean when she wants.

@Cherrybee: I remember you writing about the problems you were having breastfeeding, and sweets, I honestly can't imagine there was anything more you could have done. I'm pretty sure you did way more than most women. The problem was something completely out of your control. I'm so sorry it didn't work out the way you had imagined...so many hugs.

3 months of EP'ing and was only getting 7 oz a day. I quit because it wasn't worth it to me. All that work, so little milk. We never actually breastfed because LO was in the hospital for a week, had a hoover suck that killed me, and the LC's could only do so much. Wasn't something I enjoyed at all.

We are at 7 1/2 months and I would like to go a year. I'm considering stopping pumping at 10 months however. I'm a teacher and pumping at work is incredibly difficult, time-wise. I'd love to start the second semester without pumping.

I'm at 4 months (yesterday!) and my goal is 6 months (Christmas). I've been back at work since R was 10 weeks old. I'm only able to pump once a day while at work so we've started supplementing. I pump in the mornings before work as well. I drink a ton of water and take More Milk Plus pills but my supply has still taken a hit.

We stopped the week he turned 1. I did 'don't offer, don't refuse'... When he acted like he wanted to nurse (which was usually mid-morning), I just distracted him a little and offered a snack instead. If he insisted on nursing after the initial distraction then I would have nursed him but he never did. My son never asked to nurse until 3 days into weaning when I was trying on a bathing suit top and he saw my boobs . After that, we were totally done. It felt great to have my body back!

I stopped at 13 months, I'm 5 months pregnant and pretty much dried up. Will be interesting to see what is different with number 2!
