I have a five month old, so I'm fairly sure it's too early to tell, but EVERYBODY comments on the fact that she does everything with her left hand.
I think if she turned out to be left handed in hindsight we'd say we knew since she was 12 weeks old, but I'm curious when you started to suspect/confirm which was your kid's dominant hand, and whether they're right or left handed.

Ooohhh, I'm curious too! I'm a lefty...are you a lefty? R uses both hands at 6.5 months but does seem to use her right hand more often so far.

I think we noticed early on...maybe 4 months? She definitely reaches for things with her right hand first 90% of the time.
Of course, we could be totally wrong and have a lefty haha

I've always thought that M might turn out to be left-handed because she only eats with her left hand. Now that she's doing more fine motor things (coloring a little with crayons, putting popsicle sticks through a small hole in a container) she's doing them all with her right hand. She still eats with her left hand though, so who knows? She's 15 months.

@swedishfish: Nope, DH and I are both right handed. I think people point it out since lefty's are rare.

@MrsF: Interesting. She's pretty hardcore with the left. I'll hand a rattle to her right, and she automatically passes it to the left, I'd say 95% of the time, but now I'm interested to see if it stays the same with the fine motor skills.

It's weird because at 4mths S sucks her right thumb but picks everything up with her left hand. So who knows!

Right now, at 15 months, it seems like LO will be a righty. But when he was younger, I was sure he would be a lefty! So we shall see.

Lol, my 5 year-old still hasn't fully decided. He mostly uses his right hand, but once in awhile he switches it up and uses his left just as well. Guess that's what you get when you have a lefty for a daddy.

They really used both hands for a long time. At 21 months, my daughter definitely seems to prefer her left hand and my son right hand. I will make sure she uses right to write but would love for her to use left for most everything else. I was supposed to be a lefty but now I'm sorta ambidextrous.

DH is a lefty. We watched LO eat last night. He stabs the food with his food on the left hand, but switched it to his right hand to hold and eat the meatball from. DH is convinced that LO is going to be righty. I'm still waiting and seeing on this one.

I want to say it was around 4 or 5 months. She's a lefty, which is funny because neither DH or I are lefty's

@Sapphiresun: Honestly, dont. C was very left-hand dominant for a long time and then just started using both one day. My point is that favoring one hand this young doesnt mean that thats going to be her dominant hand.

LO is 3 months and very much prefers the right side for everything - her right hand for playing with toys, looking to the right, etc. (She doesn't have any head/neck issues.) I imagine she'll be right handed.
