We are going to start R this spring! I think she is going to love it.

We introduced the pool last summer when she was just over a year. I think this summer DH will get more serious actually teaching her to swim. He swims like a fish and we have a pool in our backyard so doesn't make sense to pay someone else!

We are hoping to start in the sping as well, when she will be about nine months or so. If like her to be familiar with water for the summer plus I think it will be really fun!

We started last summer when she was 20 months. It wasn't so great. I think the pool was too cold and she was at an awkward age.

aww fun!
our kids haven't had swim lessons yet.
we don't have a pool and haven't gone swimming much, so we'll probably wait until they're older.

I was just going to start this thread! I took DD to the pool for the first time today (she's 5 months tomorrow) and plan on enrolling her in lessons that start at 6 months.

Great post! LO is 6.5 months and I'd love to take him. Where do you all go for lessons?

@Pepper: I just did it through our city at one of the pools (hence why the water was cold).

We started a parent-child class at the Y this weekend (15 months). I don't think the class part is very important at this age (I used to teach swimming at the Y) but we don't have easy access to a pool otherwise and I wanted to do it before she was old enough to be scared.
She loved it and was practicing putting her face in the tub water when we got home

@Pepper: We are going to a swim club, lessons for all ages, that a friend recommended.
@MrsF: We have friends with a pool and DH and I just want her comfortable with the water so we can go a lot this summer. Mama needs a tan!

Landon was just shy of 6 months when he started swim lessons at the YMCA. DH's sister teaches classes there, which has been very nice.

The 9 month old that I nanny has been going for a couple of months, and she loves it!

I think I'm going to start this spring. He's been in a pool once and really enjoyed it. I'm hoping to join a pool club this summer so I don't want him to be afraid to get in the water.

Two summers ago at 14 months old. We got serious lessons about a year ago and he loves swimming.

The city pools here have lessons for babies 6 months and up. I'm not sure if we'll start her that young, I would go for it but DH is skeptical. Our neighbors have a pool, though, so I really want her to learn how to swim as soon as possible, just to put my mind a little more at ease...their pool is fenced, but still. I'm a worrywart when it comes to things like that.

Shortly after his 2 month appointment. Our facility offers them free for the first 6 months. He just turned 2, so we've been at it for a while now. We are doing the same for #2 when he arrives, it's a lot of fun!

We are booked in to start the middle of Feb. She will be just over 6 months. I wanted to start this week but the class was full.

We took LO swimming over Christmas at just shy of 5 months. I'll probably do lesson with her sometime in the next few months as I want to do them before I finish up maternity leave.

We just started last week and LO is just about 5 months. She loved it! The pool was so nice and warm, we sang lots of songs, the instructor had lots of floating toys and all the babies had a great time. I was a bit worried about dunking her under, but she laughed so hard! Plus, after the lesson she had an amazing nap, and slept great that night. I'm planning on continuing with weekly lessons for awhile!

@Smurfette: we are going to start this summer when she is about 8 months old. We are going to the place where I taught swim lessons for 12 years.

A class starts at the end of March so she'll be a week any of her bday. She's obsessed with the bath tub and running water and I want her to have familiarity before our summer vacation

We did two sessions, one at 6 months and the other at a year and my son absolutely despised the second session, I don't know why. He hung on my neck the entire time, so I decided not to pursue another set of lessons (I did it for interaction, rather than actual swim instruction).
Now, we have a pool we're going to do some kind of group lessons in it this summer...I plan to throw an invitation out to my group of friends and see if we can hire a high schooler (which is how I made $$ during the summers).

@Pepper: our county has recreation centers with pools that offer the classes.
LO is 12 months and we just started. we tried to start around 9 months but those classes are very popular!

@Smurfette: I hope she likes it I think we're going to wait until S is around a year or so, when she's able to stay awake for longer and really make the most of it! We'll probably try her in the pool on holiday in April though--she'll be 7mths.
