LO is almost 2 weeks old and I just gave her a bottle of pumped milk for the first time. She has been eating every 45 minutes for about 12 hours and I just needed a break. Now, I am terrified that what I just did will ruin her latch or give her "nipple confusion."
did I offer it too soon? When did you start bottlefeeding breastmilk and what was your experience?

I tried a bottle with mine at 3 weeks, just to do a test run. Didn't have any nipple confusion. I did start using the Medela Calma nipple recently and I like it. It makes the baby "work" for their milk.
Every 45 minutes?! Wow! Give that baby a bottle stat, haha! But seriously, hope it all goes smoothly for you

@obxwife: I don't know what her deal is! She was consistently feeding every 3 hours, but the past 12 hours have been a nightmare!

She had a bottle in the hospital, so day 2 because we had major latching issues. At home we gave her a different type of bottle with a wide nipple and I actually think that helped her learn how to open her mouth wide to latch on. No nipple confusion here. She knows the difference between the bottle, paci, and breast and still prefers the breast.

You should be fine. I've heard way more stories of babies refusing bottles if you wait too long than stories of babies refusing the breast b/c of introducing the bottle too early. My baby has been breast and bottle fed at every feeding since she was 3 days old, and she's fine. She definitely prefers the breast, but she'll eat from either without much complaint.

On day 2 at the hospital

Nipple confusion was not an issue for us at all. She had a bottle of formula within an hour after she was born because she had low blood sugar. after that we keep feeding her formula but also let her nurse for 15 minutes before she got the bottle. She is exclusively breastfed now and had no issues.

He had bottles in the hospital just so I could sleep. He is doing great with both bottles and boob.

We had to introduce one on day 3 after we left te hospital bc LO had low birth weight - So he had a few days of formula. I now have my husband give him a bottle of pumped milk at night of when I need a break or to top off a feeding (again tobget his weight up). He doesn't seem affected by it!

mine was day 2...he was circumcised and wouldn't breastfeed the whole day. it was the only way to get him food

About day 4. I'm just not producing enough and needed to supplement. Thankfully she goes back and forth non problem. Although as of late she whimpers when we give her formula. Sigh.
