Is this something to do after you get home from the hospital, or is it better to do this in advance? It just seems like a whole process! I'm 36 weeks and looking for things to do at this point

I did this after I had the baby for a few weeks since I wasn't using bottles yet. I suppose you could do it now if you had an airtight place to store them. I use those disposable Tupperware containers.

Not until I needed them. I think the Philips Avnet sterilizer said bottles will remain sterilized for 24 hrs.

@Pepper: Out of curiosity, how do you plan to sterilize? I didn't even think about that! I just assumed you threw them in the dishwasher before using.
I feel so clueless.

we just boiled for about 5 minutes. i can't remember when we did it (i think after, when we decided we needed to use bottles), but if you think you will be using them early on, for sure go ahead before baby arrives! maybe wait a week or two to be closer?

@rahlyrah: I kinda asked everyone about this before (since I am also clueless!): http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/bottle-sterilizer-1
You can buy the sterilizer bags, boil them, or buy an actual sterilizer. I bought the sterilizer bags (Dr. Brown's), and plan to do that initially, and then handwash with hot soapy water. I guess sterilizing once in awhile is a good thing, but it doesn't need done all the time. You could use the dishwasher too, but ours is a pain, so I'd rather just wash by hand.

We waited until we actually introduced a bottle at a few months since we EBF'd.

I did it a couple days before I was due because I was looking for something to do and I didn't want to do it later. Glad I did because I was an exclusive pumper!

I'd say do it now. We had to supplement with formula because my milk wasn't coming in those first few days home and DS was screaming because he was hungry while we boiled the new bottles and waited for them to cool.
