DS was a summer baby and pretty sweaty so he had one in the hospital and one a day or two after we got home. DD had one in the hospital and is now 8 days old but we haven't given one yet! She still smells sweet but I think we need to do it soon. Maybe since it's winter she seems not as in need of one? When did you give your baby their first at home bath?

We declined the hospital bath. I think she was about 2 or 3 days old? We gave her a sponge-bath and she HATED it!

He got one in the hospital, then we gave him one when he was 6 days old, right before his newborn photoshoot. But he was a June baby too.

DD was born in Dec so probably didn't for a while!

@mrsrain: Can I ask why you declined? Just curious! Was it because they use J&J? That is why I almost said no!
Ours was in the hospital on day 2 or 3. The nurse did it for us.

None in the hospital (I don't think it is standard practice here to bath newborns) and then after 3 or 4 weeks at home. (Just with a wash cloth before that).

@jlm22: we declined because of the health and bonding benefits of the vernix. It was also very special to be the one to give her that first bath!

We also declined the bath in the hospital. I think it was the first night that we were home that she had her first bath. She hated it with a passion. Screamed the entire time.

lo1 we gave a bath at 5 days old.
lo2 was a week old.
The benefits of letting their skin absorb as much vernix as possible was the reason for delaying it. -
We did not do it in the hospital. She was actually 7 or 8 days old when we did the first bath.

She had one at the hospital and then had another after she came home. I don't remember if it was at four days old or five days old.

Maybe a week or so? My LO was born late and didn't have any vernix.

We did our first bath while in the nicu. I think it was about 7 days after they were born.
