I know I was pretty late, I learned when I was 14, I think.

I took swimming lessons as a toddler & we got a pool when I was in preschool, so I can't remember not knowing how to swim. I do remember having to learn different stokes at summer camp when I was older and hating it, I didn't really have any interest in swimming outside of just for fun & cooling off.

I was 8. I grew up at the beach and around pools, but I had major surgeries, including a colostomy, from ages 5-7. I also didn't learn how to ride a bike until 8 either. My sister is 3 years younger, but we learned these things at the same time which was kinda fun.

I started lessons when I was 4 and continued taking lessons until I eventually got my lifeguarding certification when I was 16.

I probably didn't officially learn until I was around 9 years old.

I took lessons from toddlerhood on, and was in the water as a little baby. So it was a gradual process

I probably learned when I was 5 or 6. My mom signed my sister and I up for swim lessons at the YMCA.

I was in the water as an infant. I'm sure I knew how to swim by 6. My brother and I were water babies.

I started swim lessons when I was 4. It was at this mean woman's house and I was scared to jump off her diving board (which to me seemed 50 feet in the air), so she pushed me! It was traumatic but I did end up liking swimming. I'll let my future LO ease into it a bit more though.

I was 2. I feel like a slacker because we don't even have Lala in lessons yet!

i was pretty young, but old enough to remember it. my dad was holding me, and then just threw me and told me to kick my legs. he's obviously a great teacher.

I got ALL of y'all beat.......30! I took it in college and basically learned how not to drown so I could snorkle, ect, but last year at 30 I REALLY learned. I had to because was pregnant and I didn't want her not being able to be around water because she can't swim. That sucks big time, trust me. My SO can swim and learned as a child, so he also bullied me, reminding me they will be at the lake without life vests and I'd have to sit on the boat.LOL

@photojane: In Antigua, this guy was telling me thats how they learned to swim. Maybe he was serious and not trying to flirt.LOL

I'm in Florida so we have water everywhere. I had to learn early. At least my mom tried.... I hated swim lessons.

I never took lessons, we used to go to lakes in Korea...and my brother and I just kind of learned on our own! We LOVED the water... and still do! I hope our LO does too!

I learned fairly young (don't recall the exact age) at my aunt's pool. My dad taught me. I LOVE swimming and being the water. Hope our future kids love it also!

Well I started swim lessons when I was 5, however my mom and dad got us in the water pretty early. I think I want to do the mom and baby classes pretty young, I want my kids to be very comfortable in the water since it's a favorite summertime activity for us!

I don't remember. It was a really long time ago. We had a pool put into our backyard when I was 7, and I was already a good swimmer by then.

I was actually talking about this with my sister over the weekend. She has a 2 year old and he loves the pool (though still uses floaties). I must have been really young because I don't remember not being able to swim. I hope to get my kids in the water asap.

It was long enough ago that I can barely remember taking the lessons. We went to the beach every year, but we also got more formal lessons at home as toddlers.

I think I started lessons around 1st or 2nd grade and took them for 2-3 years.
I plan to start LO in swimming early though, like 12-18 mos old.

We lived in Miami when I was 5 - 7 and we had a pool across the street! I learned quickly... I think we went every weekend, it was so much fun!

As a toddler. My parents started me in lessons at 6 months because we lived near a lake and it was a safety thing.

Pretty young, I don't have memories of learning or not knowing how to swim. I took swimming lessons most summers to get better and learn the right techniques but I must have learned somewhere around toddler/pre-school.

Two or three. My dad taught me at my God mother's condo complex pool.

My dad was a lifeguard at Venice beach in socal. So he taught us all to swim from the moment we started walking. I remember swimming back and forth in our jacuzzi.

I grew up with a beach house in the summer plus camping on lakes so I can't even remember learning to swim!

I can't remember not knowing how to swim. I didn't even know anyone who couldn't swim until I was in my 20's. I think most people learn pretty young in Florida. There are 4 swim schools within 15 minutes of my house.

Pretty young... I think I started lessons when I was 3 or 4. I can't remember a time when I couldn't swim.

my parents threw me into water as early as possible so I don't remember not knowing how to swim. My sister has done the same with her kids and her almost 3 year old will jump in and swim in a pool on his own with his life jacket and recently started jumping in with us with no life jacket and getting back to the top no problem
