J sleeps with two light blankets and an array of stuffed animals. But he doesn't have a pillow or thick blanket yet. I've thought of buying him a quilt or duvet now that it's winter weather but I'm not sure what the age is for bedding? He is 20 months.

C has been sleeping with her crib comforter for a while now, probably since she was like 11 months. She loves that thing and uses it as a lovey, chewing on the corners for comfort. She sleeps fully under it and will cover herself back up at night if she kicks it off.
We won't do a pillow until she goes into a big bed, most likely.

We introduced a pillow around 20 months- it's on the flatter/firmer side so less worry for it covering her face. She is 2 now and we've introduced a toddler size comforter now that it's cold here.

I've been wondering the same thing. he sleeps with a blanket my mom crochet for him, but he doesn't stay under it. i'm afraid he's going to get too cold in the winter, and he hates sleep sacks!

@loveisstrange: yeah I told DH the same thing - pillow when we transition to a bed.
@sarbear: ha yeah we gave up sleep sacks a long time ago and he has managed to stay warm enough! I don't have actual bedding for him, but a warm duvet would be nice so that we don't have to keep the heat on so high at night.

She stopped really rolling around at that age. Since she kinda layer still she was good with the normal blanket.
What about a fleece or crochet blanket that is warm but still kinda breathable?

I've been thinking about this too lately. She's already in her 'big girl bed' but still sleeps in a sleep sack every night with no pillows. I'm not in a rush to give her blankets of a pillow until she gets crabby about the sleep sack.

She has been using a toddler sized fleece blanket or a Walker sleep sack. We keep the heat at 66 at night but her room is the coldest but she runs hot!
I won't do a pillow for a while!

I've wondered about this, too. DS is 10 months and, knock on wood, so far doesn't mind the sleep sack.
It seems so weird that babies sleep without pillows. I can't imagine just laying my head on the mattress every night.

My daughter has slept with a blanket since we moved her into a floor bed at 8 months. That early, it was just a light, thin one. After 12 months it got colder and she got sheets and a real blanket. Also pillows. Never any issues.

I've been thinking about this lately too. Noelle is turning 3 in January and still just has a small thin blanket. Planning to get her some real bedding soon, and a real pillow too!

Charlie got a pillow and blanket when we transitioned out of the sleep sack and into a regular bed around 26 months.
I'm sure Olive will stay in her crib much longer than that because she is such a cautious little girl.
That said, I am terrified to give her a blanket because I have heard of SIDS cases of children as old as 2. She'll probably be in her crib until she's 3!

Ill offer both when he transitions to a bed, hopefully after age 2. He sleeps with a lobie, some stuffies, and a large angle dear blanket but just snuggles it. He's 18 months. He sleeps better without the sleep sack but when he starts trying to crib climb ill probably put him in one again. Luckily he is short!

We transitioned to a twin mattress on the floor at 19 months. At that point we gave him a blanket and small pillow. We had to stop using the sleepsack because he couldn't get off the mattress with it on and would just get frustrated. We don't have heating, so blanket it was. He had been using his lovey as a pillow anyway and at some point, maybe a couple months later, started preferring the actual pillow.

@T.H.O.U.: he has two thin blankets he sleeps with. He usually ends up uncovered though because of how much we moves around.
@Mrs. Bee: that's true, one person here just shared a story not long ago of an IRL friend and it broke my heart. I think the child was two. I do wonder though if any of the SIDS cases in toddlers pertain to bedding? My doctor said that by this age he possesses the reflexes to move or turn his head if he can't breathe due to being surrounded by blankets or pillows.
@Katrocap: hahha yeah I know! I read that since their development is so different, that have no need for a pillow yet!
@locavore_mama: yeah I still don't think I'll do a pillow until he's in a big boy bed. Developmentally their bodies don't need one the same way we do. But I'm still debating a thick quilt or duvet... I feel like he'd be fine, but I just am unsure.

We didn't start giving him a pillow until he was way over 3. My son is a very active sleeper so I also worried about him kicking his blanket and getting cold in the winters. The sleep sack well for him well into 2 years old. After that, we tried giving him a heavier blanket but he keeps kicking it off so last winter, he always went to bed wearing a fleece vest. He's now 4 and is finally able to keep himself covered in a blanket.

We introduced an AA dream blanket around 10 months, along with the sleep sack and that was what he used until we transitioned out of the crib and into a twin at 33 months. With the twin bed, I bought a lightweight duvet and one of those very flat baby/toddler pillows from Ikea. I have no idea when we will give him a real pillow, I feel like they are just too big. He seems to be fine without a pillow, and I don't think he actually uses the baby pillow.

S has a toddler bed, comforter and kid pillow- she's 18 months. We weren't going to give her a pillow, but she demanded one- silly kid!

My DD is 2.5 and winter just started so she uses an A & A dream blanket and a homemade blanket every night. Last winter she was 18 months and I would not let her use blankets (besides her A&A muslin she snuggles with.)
My DS didn't use a pillow until around age 4. He didn't like them.

@Mrs. Pen: I was just going to ask this question! I am making G a knit pillow right now. It should be done when he is 18 months.
I decided to go for it because he won't sleep with the blanket over him anymore--he now only balls up the blanket like a pillow.I think we gave him the blanket around 12 months? Definitely not before 8 months. So between 8 and 12 months ish.
He picked up the lovey right around (after) his birthday, too.

When he transitioned into his floor bed, around age 2. At first I was worried (silly mom) but he is clearly in control of the situation.

We gave Jax a pillow and blanket probably around a year. At 18 months he loves his pillow, but kicks the blankets off like they are some kind of straight jacket

She sleeps with her lovey since about 11 months, which is a thicker blanket. She usually covers herslef with it and has it by her face. I won't do a pillow for awhile.

we introduced a pillow in her crib quite early around 13 months but then we took it away a few months later because she started pushing her head under the pillow as a game. when she sleeps in our bed she sleeps on a pillow. In her crib I layer A& A blanket over her but I dont think she is ready for a duvet or comforter. She is 18 months

@Mrs. Pen: @Mrs. Bee: I always wondered about this. I mean, is it SIDS if the death is caused by suffocation from the bedding? Isn't that just suffocation? Or is it SIDS because its sleep related?
DD has slept with a blanket in her crib since she was 1.

A only sleeps with a walker sleep sack and her A&A blanket, plus some stuffed animals. I'm too nervous to let her sleep with a pillow or thicker blanket, at least at night.

@luckypenny: i think it is suffocation but SIDS is just a catch all phrase.
