I keep trying to read to E but he has no interest. If he's in my lap he squirms until he's on the floor and if he's on the floor beside me the extent of his interest is how fast he can get the book into his mouth 
DH and I are big book people, so this makes me sort of sad. When did your LO start paying attention to/showing an interest in books?

I'm wondering this too! I kept trying to read to LO yesterday but she would whine or scream until I handed her the book so she could put it in her mouth.

Lala had book interest early, like 4 months. M still isn't that interested unless I sing them at 11 months!

LO is 5 months old and as long as she isn't too tired she will let me read a few books to her at a time.

LO had interest in books very early on, 3 months or so? We would lay him down and read in really silly voices. He was mesmerized! He isn't a big fan of looking at them while sitting though so I am not sure if it has to do with us laying down with him or not.

My LO was interested in books early on, about 3-4 months? In the beginning it was the bright cloth books that she could touch or board books that just had big bright photos (she used to love this board book of animals). Now at almost 10 months she loves when I read to her and make the voices. She also likes to turn the page.

2 months! He actually looks at the pictures and will sit through a whole dr Seuss book if he's in a good mood. We read all the time but I wouldn't be surprised if it lost some of its allure once he's mobile.

Around 3.5-4 months was when he started enjoying them more but that was also when we switched positions. Like @lilyann, we lie on a big floor pillow to read.

@lilyann: That is so cute! I can't keep him on his back for anything, though...little dude just wants to be mobile...it's a constant struggle to keep him on his back long enough to change his diaper, lol.

We started reading daily from day 1, now at 3 months she actually seems to focus on the book.

@Mrs. Jacks: Seriously our kids are just alike. DS is only interested in interactive books and then only so long as his sister isn't doing something more fun.

I read to LO in the bathtub (at 4 months) but she is more interested in sticking them in her mouth at this point....

Really early -- maybe 2-3 months? Now, though, is the best, as he squeals and flaps his arms and kicks his legs when we bring out his favorites. He also turns the pages!

@FutureMrsMcK: How old is your LO? Once they're mobile, it can get more challenging. I adapted by reading LO really short board books and only one at a time (we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar over and over and over...). Eventually we built up his stamina for sitting and paying attention and now, at 2.5 years, I can read him text-heavy picture books and even chapter books and he sits still and pays attention. It was kind of an endurance sport for me, though!
Introducing new books was sometimes hard between the 6 mos-1 year period and a little after, so instead of trying to read them immediately, I'd talk about the cover picture for a while and maybe look at the first page and then put it down if he was losing interest. The next time we'd try a few more pages and then the next time we'd read the whole thing. I still do this with library books sometimes--it totally works!

Early--around 3 months. I read to him as a newborn, but we started board books at 3 months, I think. Simon immediately fell in love. Now at 11 months, he'll sit and flip through books himself, as well as bring specific books over to me or my husband to read to/with him. He definitely has favorites and knows where in each book a cat appears or where certain fun things happen (all the hippos go berserk, for example, where we make the book dance for him).

charlie was interested in books very early. about 3-4 months?
olive not until she was much older. i can't remember exactly.... maybe 8 months? now she is much more into them at 16 months, but she likes flipping the pages and lift the flap books more than reading the stories!

Elliot started showing interest a couple of weeks ago but he has to be in a good mood and we have to read them while lying down lol. High maintenance little guy!
