We don't have stairs in our condo, but we have a gate blocking off the entry way where the recycling bin is and the shoes and such. C is 27 months and I would say at this point it's only for our own convenience. When we visit friends with stairs now I can tell her she can only go to the third stair and sit and she obeys 80% of the time? She's sort of obsessed with stairs but I still don't feel comfortable with her on them by herself. So I'd say by 2.5 or so I'd be ok with getting rid of it?

I have other friends who have done away with them way earlier though. The stairs are just really tempting to C (despite the fact that we have two flights in our building to get to our condo, that she takes forever to climb...)

We moved into our current house from a one level when LO was 16 months and we just didn't put them up! She was fine on stairs then.

We moved into our current house when LO was 18 months and the only gate we put up was at the top of the stairs. A year later and its still there. I worry about him getting up in the middle of the night, being half asleep, and tripping down them. LO2 will be here soon and other gates may be added but I don't see taking the top of the stairs one down for a long time.

Shortly after 2, I think. She was doing well with going up and down the stairs and if we were worried, we just put something in front of the stairs.
