If you had an IUD, especially in between pregnancies, at what point did you remove it to get ready to ttc? I know fertility resumes almost immediately, but it also took us a while to get pregnant so I'm not sure if I should remove it 3-6 months prior to actively ttc knowing we would be happy if it happened sooner!

I got mine removed right before Christmas. We were going to start this month but DH wants another couple months, so we are starting in March now. My OB said we were good to start TTC right away.

I had it removed in April and began trying right away. I began a period two days after removal, my first full cycle was shorter than I expected and we got pregnant the second cycle. For what it's worth, it took us 11 months to conceive LO #1

I had it removed in May during a prescheduled GYN visit, and we had plans to start TTC in October. We got pregnant in September.
My OB said there is no “waiting period” between removal and TTC, and I only did it several months in advance of our planned TTC time as I already had the appointment scheduled and it only took an extra 30 seconds to add on IUD removal.
FWIW, my period returned immediately and like clockwork as soon as I got my IUD out, so it would have been easy to TTC as soon as I got it out.

Immediately prior. I got it out late Feb 15 and got a positive hpt 6 weeks later (first real cycle!). In contrast, it took us 13 cycles with 2 losses to conceive our first!

My period returned like clockwork, and I immediately started using FF and opks to establish a pattern. We used condoms for the 4 months before ttc.

You can get pregnant right away. My BFF didn't have an LMP to date her period - had to use her IUD removal date! So if you take it out in advance be prepared that you could get pregnant that cycle! Im planning on getting mine out 2 mo prior to when we'll really TTC but am fully prepared for possible pregnancy the first month. Even though it took us 8+ mo and a miscarriage the first time!

I got mine removed in November. We are TTCing but we also had fertility issues in conceiving DS so we'll see how long we try before seeing a RE. My cycle was wonky after getting it removed so I count December as the first month TTC.

@MenagerieMama: wow! I never had a period before getting my mirena as I had it inserted at my 8 week checkup!! So, they just used the removal date to estimate her due date?
It's great to hear some positive stories of it not taking long second time around!

I had it removed in mid-November and started TTC in January. I was able to easily get pregnant that cycle.

Had mine removed at the beginning of the cycle when we started trying. Is was about two weeks before, I guess!
Eta: we tried in earnest that cycle (temping, opks, etc) and got pregnant on the first try! A big surprise since it took us 15 months to get pregnant the first time!

Oops I voted wrong. Both times we started trying immediately but got pregnant 4-6 months later.

I plan to get it removed 1-2 months before TTC. My OB prefers patients to have at least one cycle off birth control before TTC.

I had it removed and my doc wanted us to wait a full cycle before TTC. I got pregnant the first month we tried.
