Lo is only 6 weeks old, so we dont have a stable routine yet. but when did you start a consistent routine for when they go to bed? right now we just put him to bed when he is tired and read off his cues, he sleeps alot though being so young.i would love to doa routine like bath, feeding, book and bed...

6 weeks is when Dr. Weissbluth recommends pushing their bedtime to 630 pm because you've passed the fussiness peak. Lil Miss Wagon will be 6 weeks on Tuesday but we're already putting her down around 7pm. We don't bathe every day yet so it's really not that different than her daytime napping except we put her in the bassinet with white noise going and leave the room.

We only started about 2 weeks ago (6 months old now). LO's sleep schedule fluctuated so much. First few weeks he would only sleep if someone was holding him, then he went 3 - 4 hour stretches of sleep at night, then maybe 2 hours, now we have a routine, around 7 - 7:30pm he gets changed and ready for bed, gets a book or two, or three read to him, then put him in the crib and he goes to sleep... eventually
He usually will stay asleep until about 3 or 4am, eat, then go back to sleep util morning.It is probably best to start early, just so the baby starts to get cues on when bed time is coming up, and gets mentally prepared for it. If we started earlier, I would imagine bedtime would go a lot smoother and quicker.

the thing is right now he is such a easy baby to put asleep, (i know this can EASILY change though when he gets older, so im not holding my breath!!) he sleeps in three places without any problems, his crib in his own room, the basinette in our room nad we sometimes cosleep in bed (Safely!) it was important to me that he got use to sleeepign in differnet areas sot that he didnt develop a prefance and so far he hasnt.. and he goes down without a problem so i wonder if he even needs a routine... i really like reading his cues and the flexability of him telling us when he is tired but then i nkow its good for babies to have routines. i have been noticng patterns in his sleep that he is setting himself so ive just been going off them, hope im not seetting him up for disaster when he gets older though..

@stargal: once you put a fixed bedtime in place (say 7 pm EVERY night) his schedule will start to revolve about that. He'll then wake up near the same time each morning and nap at the same time each day.
We started late, but should have started earlier. Babies thrive on repetition. The more you do the same thing, the quicker they learn. He won't feel the need to fight sleep now while he sleeps easily if he knows the cues that signal sleep time is coming.
