Because these nail files aren't working for me! His nails get so long, but I'm afraid to cut them because his fingers are so tiny and delicate.

@Pepper: the doctor and nurses told us to wait 2 weeks. I cut his finger once and now it's DH's job.

I think I started around 2 weeks, maybe a little later? I have to do it like every few days now because he scratches himself all the time.

He was about a week old. I've cut his fingers a couple of times, but he didn't even notice.

I did it at the hospital even though I guess you're supposed to wait. Those things were razor sharp! I use the scissors because I feel like you have more control with those.

My dad did it for me, some time in the first week because she was scratching her face soooo much!! I hate doing it so much. Once I pinched her and she had a total meltdown.

I'm still using the nail file...I'm scared I'll cut her fingers!

I started with the baby nail files right away, but it wasn't enough so I just used a very fine grit regular nail file. I think I did that until maybe three months when she got too squirmy to take all the time to file. I actually like filing them better because they are more even but clipping is so much faster!

After about a week? No one told us not to! I did notice that her nails didn't harden up until a couple days after that, so it was really hard to trim them at first.

First week! Have to do it at least weekly. She's got CLAWS and knows how to use them!

i filed them the first few weeks but it didn't work that well, and switched to nail scissors at around 1 month.

We do it about once a week...sometimes twice if they get scratchy! We started right away because filing also didn't work for us. DH cuts them while I am feeding him and that usually keeps him from moving around too much. He did nip him once, but it didn't bleed. He screamed bloody murder, though.

I'm afraid to cut them. Someone told me once to bite them, and I thought they were crazy, but it works! So much easier.
