L is only a week old but I'm wondering when others have started putting their baby in the crib for naps? What was your routine to get them to sleep? For my first we pretty much held her or swung her for every nap for a really long time!

I want to say 5 months or so? With the next I'd like to do it muuuuuch earlier!

If you count a pack n play, right away! It sat next to the couch. I also used the crib after a month or so....and the swing was downstairs. I think it's easier (if they'll go for it) to start out with it at least a little bit so it's familiar. I didn't want daycare to be some massive shock

@getjazzy: ha yes that is what I'm trying to avoid too!
@blackbird: good idea, I hadn't thought of setting the PNP up downstairs!

We started with her RNP/swing and then around 6 weeks started in the crib, I plan on doing about the same schedule, but maybe do the crib for naps sooner, maybe around 4 weeks. It's hard when they are so snuggly but I want to encourage good habits!

Not until about 4 months or so when he started becoming a light sleeper for some reason. He couldn't nap in his pack n play during the day anymore because the slightest noise woke him up. We moved him to his crib in his room and it helped.

We didn't move her to her crib until she was almost 6 months old, but she slept in her PnP in our bedroom at night and we started putting her in that to nap at about 8 weeks old. We'd rock her to sleep and put her down initially. Then I started just giving her a bottle and putting her down and she'd fall asleep. But thats not really a method, she was just super awesome for like a month or two there. (Don't worry, 4 mo regression hit and I got mine coming to me on the terrible sleep front hah)

3 months, when we started using it for nighttime sleep, as well.

right away in a pnp or a crib. our friends had had a really hard time with their baby only falling asleep while being held and i was overly worried about that. i wish i had relaxed a little bit and enjoyed some snuggles.
pomelo / 5524 posts
Right away in the PNP, about 8 weeks until he was napping mostly in his actual crib. We had also transitioned him into his crib for night sleep by 4 weeks.

We started putting LO in the crib for naps consistently sometime after 12 weeks. He slept better and longer in the mamaroo and we were out and about a lot the first couple months so most of his naps were in the 'roo or on the go. We were consistent with night sleep in the crib around a month tho.

DD is 6 weeks and she is currently co sleeping with us at night. My next move is for her to move back to rnp or pnp at some point when she sleeps longer stretches

Both of ours slept in their cribs for most naps and nighttime sleep at about 1 week old.

Oh gosh, probably not until 4 months or so. We relied on the swing a LOT.
clementine / 856 posts
the first eight weeks, LO napped in the rnp without a problem. at eight weeks it was like a switch was turned on and he would only sleep with someone holding him. that lasted about 3 months until we nap trained.

Probably around 6ish weeks. It didn't really work that great though. My lo had colic
pomelo / 5228 posts
Day one, he was in either a crib or pack n play for all sleep (unless someone wanted to hold him). He's a great sleeper now

@HappyBaker: Yep! Though as a newborn he was so sleepy he didn't need it all the time (and it would wake him up if he fell asleep on his own). We STILL swaddle now at 5mo, though we're working on weaning...

Right away... although he slept TERRIBLY in the crib for weeks, he would cry anywhere from 5 - 30 mins after we set him down, even if he was in a deeeep sleep. Now (at 13 weeks/8 weeks adjusted), naps are better in the crib, but night time sleep in the crib is still a sh*t show. We're so tired...

Never. He sleeps in the crib (alongside our bed) at night but during the day, he sleeps in our arms or in the travel bassinet we have in the living room. I've never felt comfortable leaving him to sleep alone in another room.

@HappyBaker: We swaddled for a little bit and it was great for the first couple of weeks. Neither one liked it after about 1-2 months and fought it which kept them awake so we ditched it and all has been well since.

@HappyBaker: not until 4 months. Before that, it was in the swing.

We started from day 1 as long as we were home, and didn't worry if he napped in the car. Around 2 months he started having a hard time napping in his crib so we let him nap in his swing. That lasted until about 6 months, and he easily transitioned back to the crib. He slept in his crib at night from day 1 as well, and napping in the swing never affected his ability to sleep in his crib at night.

For naps? I think I stsrted really trying regularly around 4-6 wks for at least one nap in the crib per day. We had tried earlier but she really would only sleep while being held or worn for ages except at night. Always in the PnP bassinet (or now transitioning to crib) for nighttime after the first week or so (we took shifts holding her for the first week). It was around 8 wks when I started back part time at work that the majority of her naps shifted to the crib because it was easier for the grandparents and she also was getting too social to fall asleep being worn as well. Now she does all her naps in the crib (with the occasional cosleep nap in bed with me) and for the past couple weeks has been learning how to fall asleep on her own with pretty good success. She's 3.5 mo now. It was a slow process and once I stopped stressing about it and just went with where she was developmentally and personally, it's been great! Well except for when she wakes up after 20 min and thinks her nap is done sometimes

We switched to the crib for all sleep around 1-2 weeks. But her room was right next to ours, so she was steps away. And both our rooms are on the first floor, not sure what I would have done if they were on an upper floor.

I want to say it was 3-4 months when she stopped liking the swing. That was sad! I am very pro naps in the swing. It was a glorious time!
clementine / 878 posts
Omg not until a year old. It was awful.... Not until we had jet lag and it didn't matter where she slept, she was all screwed up by jet lag so she could fall asleep in the crib. Before that we never had the guts, she napped in the Ergo or on me after nursing. At night she slept in the crib no problem. Don't be like us!!

Lo#1: 11 months. Before that we cobedded all our sleep (nap/nighttime).
Lo#2: we cobedded for about 2 weeks at night, naps were in the swing & then all sleep in the swing. We switched to a bassinet at 4 months. So no crib yet but I'd like him in there for naps by 6-7 months
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@HappyBaker: she's not yet in her crib for naps but I do set her down for naps since the day we're home from the hospital (on the couch, her stroller bassinet, carseat...).
