We started a little before 6 months with a few bites of homemade purees. We really got going after the 6 month appt.

I don't remember exactly when we started, but I wanted to make sure that my son had a good pinscher grasp. We started with oatmeal cereal and orange vegetables. Gross combination!

we started at 4 months with purees, but weren't consistent with it at all, maybe once every 3-4 days. at about 5 1/2 months we were a combo purees/BLW. now he refuses purees 9 out of 10 times at almost 1.

Waited until all of these milestones were reached:

"Signs that indicate baby is developmentally ready for solids include:
Baby can sit up well without support.
Baby has lost the tongue-thrust reflex and does not automatically push solids out of his mouth with his tongue.
Baby is ready and willing to chew.
Baby is developing a “pincer” grasp, where he picks up food or other objects between thumb and forefinger. Using the fingers and scraping the food into the palm of the hand (palmar grasp) does not substitute for pincer grasp development.
Baby is eager to participate in mealtime and may try to grab food and put it in his mouth."

We did straight BLW at 6.5 months. The last one to disappear was the tongue-thrust reflex. No purées or rice cereal/oatmeal.

We started at 5.5 months. E was attacking our food, sitting up well and making chewing motions with his mouth. We started with purees. He's now 6.5 months and we've started trying things like puffs and little finger foods. He will try to feed himself the purees with the spoon but he shows no interest in grabbing things off his tray yet.
