With DS1 we started to switch at 11 months, and by 12 months he only drank whole milk.
My friend said the new recommendation is 9 months. Have you heard this?

11 months we started working it in for our 1st. Haven't at all for our 9mo old. Curious what th that source was? I tried to search it and couldn't find anything legit.

I think Canadian recommendations are to introduce between 9-12 mo. With lo1 we did at 11, and lo2 who is 10mo we will soon

12 months we started and he was fully transitioned within maybe 2 weeks? Mixed formula and milk and just adjusted the ratio every day.

We waited a bit longer - 15 months for LO1 and I think around 18 or 19 months for LO2. I have never heard of giving it at 9 months! I think if my kids were on regular formula vs breastfeeding I would not be opposed to trying it sooner.

We tried at 11 months with DS1. He didn't mind the taste at all, but he had some stomach issues with it so we waited to try again at 13 months and he did fine. We just did toddler formula for one month since it was cheaper and closer to regular milk.
With DS2, I don't think we'll start trying until 12 months because I have enough frozen breastmilk and he has had more food sensitivities than DS1.

We switched pretty much all at once at 12 months for both kids.

In Canada, they say 9 months for WCM, but here 12 months... We started at like 11.5 because I wanted to lengthen out my breast milk. He did great with transitioning to milk tho we try to not give him much. He's 15months.

I'm in Canada. I have never heard this 9 month recommendation though! I feel like it might vary based on doctor...
We introduced at 11 months and I weaned at 13 months when pregnant.

@Mrs. Goose: I'm in Canada too. When my DD was born in 2013, the recommendation was 12 months. They have changed recommendations to 9-12 months on the government web site. I will likely do closer to 12 months for my DS.

12 months for us, but I alternated between different milks, like cow, rice, almond..

11 months and we were fully switched at 21 months. For several months, she wouldn't drink cows milk and we nursed once a day.

I feel like that recommendation is based on using milk as a beverage, not a replacement for formula or nursing. So if solids are going well and you want to introduce a little sippy of milk then 9 months is a fine time, but not using milk to replace formula ounce for ounce.

I think we introduced it starting at 11 months and then cold turkey switched after a year.

@Charm54: did you stop formula or breast milk then and just do milk?
I'm so over nursing but don't want to switch to formula only to switch to wcm in a couple months. Dd is 9.5 months.

@Mrs. Champagne: I'm with you, at least re: pumping. SO over it...but my son's just under eight months. *Sigh*

@Mrs. Champagne: I started mixing half formula half whole milk around 9 months. By 10 months they were on 100% whole milk. They were both fine with the transition.

@Alba4: A couple of days after his first birthday we just went cold turkey. (Cold cow?).

@MrsSRS: I totally agree. I don't get the ounce for lunch transition to milk even after 1 year. It should be phasing out formula and introducing milk as a beverage.

We started DD about 2 weeks short of 12 months. I needed to leave on a longish work trip and didn't want to ship BM home every few days.

It talks a bit there about the transition that I found helpful

Following. We are on our last box of formula and no plans to order more.

We started offering WCM at 11 months I think. And we just used it as a beverage. I had been putting formula in his sippy cup with dinner and I switched it out for milk. He's always eaten a lot of cheese and yogurt so it didn't really matter to me if he got that much from the sippy.
You don't really "switch" from BM or formula to WCM. You slowly transition from feeding those as meals to feeding solids for meals. WCM is just a drink.
