In Nov, I hit my 3 year mark since TTC. Now there was about 6 months that we put TTC on hold but it's still been a long journey for us.
We had a bunch of IUIs before proceeding to IVF.
So how long did it take for you to start IVF?

We decided to move forward with IVF shortly after the 2 year mark, but we didn't start our IVF cycle until 2.5 years.

I think after our 6th failed IUI, which was in July 2014, we decided to move to IVF. We didn't have our ER til end of Oct 2014, which is a month before our 3 year since TTC. We didn't do a fresh cycle per protocol, so our FET will be at the end of this month (Jan 2015).
I voted 3 years at our ER date.

It was 27 months when we did our fresh cycle and one month past 3 years when we did our last FET.

I was ready to just go for IVF after 16 months and skip the whole IUI trials. I was on the fence for what to do but, our RE and DH thought that IUI's were worth the shot so we did that. When 3 of those didn't work, we did our first cycle at 24 months of trying.

For us (then 35 and 38), after TTC 6 months, we saw the GYN who after my HSG showed a blocked tube and DHs SA showed low morphology sent us to the RE right away. We had the best chances with IVF, so we never tried IUI or any other treatments and were doing IVF by 10-11 months after we first started TTC.
ETA: If I had been younger, I think we might have 1) tried longer on our own, and 2) tried IUI before going onto IVF.

We tried on our own for three years before going to the RE, and had our first IVF cycle at about the 4-year mark. I wish now that I had gone to the RE a bit earlier, but at the time, I just wasn't ready to move forward with active interventions. I waited until I was really ready (ha! I thought we'd get pregnant in the first several months of seeking help, but the joke was on me! )

We tried on our own from before we were married (Dec 2010 start date) and moved to IVF in January 2012. Georgia was conceived in IVF #2 in July 2012.

I voted 29-31 months. We tried on our own for almost a year, then did TI, IUIs, then had to take over a year off because we moved/jobs changed/insurance changed and then went back to an RE after we got another new insurance.

@ineebee: oh, you moved and changed jobs during TTC? We had that same decision to make (job hunt & move or continue TTC). Ultimately we decided to keep doing IUIs and pursue IVF. Given all the time we've been TTC, we could have job hunted but I was worried that I would get pregnant during the middle of job hunting and blow whatever offer I had. I'm the breadwinner so I had to make sure I was covered by FMLA and had a steady paycheck. So which is why it sounded like more sense to push to get pregnant and take advantage of my company's maternity leave. After getting pregnant and giving birth, my plan is to aggressively start job hunting and move back east to be closer to family.
My family back east are wondering how long we will be in Seattle for. Right now, we have been in WA for 6 years.... 3 of those years TTC. My friends joke that we might be on a 10 year plan. I really hope I get pregnant soon so I can move back east. If I was fertile, I would definitely be on the east coast right now. Hoping I'm not in WA for another 4 years.

@bluestriped bee: It was brutal, but it was a really prestigious job that DH accepted long before we started IF treatment. I never thought I'd say it, but if we had to do it over again, I would do the same thing.

We TTC'd for about 28 months before we started with IVF. We tried for a year or so on our own, then moved on to the RE, I had a lap, did a couple IUI's, changed clinics/tried on our own for about 6 months and started planning for our IVF cycle in April/May 2014, did IVF in July 2014

We started TTC right after I had my lap for my endometriosis and if after 6 months of trying naturally they wanted us to move on to fertility treatments. We weren't ready for any of that after just 6 months, it was about 18 months later we started the process of IVF and got pregnant my first cycle which was month 20. I think us already knowing I had endo and could have trouble conceiving and skipping IUI's all together made the whole process quicker for us.
