My SIL still at least halves them for her almost 3 year old. Seems a bit excessive to me, but then again I've never been the parent of a toddler.

I stopped cutting them a while ago, and DS is 18 months. But day care sent his grape leftovers cut-up the other day, so it got me thinking that maybe I should go back to cutting them up. Sometimes he gets too excited and doesn't chew his food all the way, so I could see how he may gag a little.

We know a 4 year old that choked to death on a grape. So, I'll be halfing them until grade school!

@winniebee: Oh, man. That terrifies me! Slice away then!
On a related note, when did you start giving grapes?

@plantains: I know. It's awful and I don't mean to scare ppl, but it's the truth!

@Weagle: I haven't yet but probably will soon. We don't eat a lot of grapes in the winter and I doubt my son could eat a whole bag in a week so they'd probably go to waste.

i also know of a toddler that died chocking on a grape =( because they are spherical they get really lodged in and even if you're able to get it to rotate it, the airway is still covered because it's just spinning and not getting out of the way. even trached on the scene they couldn't get any air to him because it was far down and they just couldn't get it out. i can't imagine going through that. i cut school aged kids' grapes because now i'm so paranoid about it.
