B is now sitting up unassisted and I wonder how long it will be till his next milestone, crawling. When he is on his belly he army crawls. How long from army crawling to real crawling?

DD didn't do army crawling so I am not sure. She started regular crawling at 5 months.

We're still scooting/army crawling exclusively backward and in circles...LO is almost 7 months

My LO was a little late in reaching these milestones but they came quickly! He went from getting into sitting to crawling to pulling up on everything in 2 weeks just after he turned 8 months. He never army crawled,

Charlie started army crawling at 6 months. Maybe real crawling at 7-8 months?
Olive started army crawling at 8 months (7 adjusted), and real crawling at 1 year!

LO is 8 months this week and still not really crawling, her main mode of transportation is rolling around everywhere

My son went from sitting at 6-7 months to crawling at 10 months. He never army crawled or scooted. He waited until he could full on crawl.

About a week before she turned six months last week she was up on all fours. Now she is actually crawling! She's a bit advanced. I think it has a lot to do with watching her brother.

She was army crawling at 6.5 months and started really crawling on all 4s around 10.5 months!

DD army crawled for 3 months before attempting to crawl! We thought she would just skip regular crawling. She still defaults to army crawl sometimes and she's 10.5 months.

LO started sitting well at 6 months (at 5 months started sitting but not well) and started scooting, doing downward dog and spinning in circles for the last week or so. He's 7 months, hasn't started real crawling yet. I think he's still a few weeks away from that.

DS was exactly six months. DD at six months can army crawl and spins, rolls to get where she wants to be but probably still has awhile to go until real crawling.

Started sitting unassisted at 6 months and started crawling at 7 months. He never army crawled.

Sitting at 5 months
Army crawling not yet
Rolling not yet
Crawling not yet
He is 7 months and goes onto all 4s and rocks back and forth and does planks and downward facing dog to upward facing dog. He also goes around in circles on his back or tummy. He much prefers standing up to tummy time though.
No clue if/when he will crawl.

My daughter was a super late crawler - didn't fully switch from army crawling to real crawling until 12 months.

I think LO may skip real crawling completely. She was doing army crawling for a long time (she turned 8 months yesterday) and was doing the backwards crawl--but now she just stands and is taking steps with assistance. She also sort of bunny hops (while sitting on her knees she bounces around).

Update - he started crawling just before 8 months. Not well, but he's doing it. He started rocking on all fours about 4 weeks prior. He can pull up (not well) and can stand well if leaning on something.

Just started crawling today at 8.5 months. He had only been army crawling for a week or two, but started getting up on all fours and rocking about a month ago.

@winniebee: That is exciting!!!
@duckduckkristen: Yay!!! Another crawler!
Brennan has decided he wants to roll everywhere. He also does this weird thing where he scoots backwards on his back. His favorite thing though is to pull up on me and then jump. He's silly

Mine's 5.5 months and isn't crawling yet, but he gets up on all fours and rocks, then gets up on his hands and feets and thrusts himself forward. And he army crawls backwards. And planks a lot. He's funny.

@FutureMrsMcK: isn't the backwards thing hilarious? I'm like, where are you going? I can tell our dogs, especially our chihuahua is terrified that he is no longer stationary.

LO is 7.5 months and she does a lot of army crawling, but no real crawling yet. She's SO close, so my guess is that by 8 months she will be up and crawling. If she does, that would be great since her grandparents will be visiting from England and they can see the impressive milestone!

LO is 8 months and still no crawling. She just rolls everywhere. She does pull up though.

Army crawling IS real crawling.
I just went to a workshop yesterday and the physiotherapist said all kinds of crawling will develop the arm strength they need, so not to be worried if LO takes to the army crawl. She did say that 'skipping' crawling or 'bum shuffling' does not give them the arm/wrist development and studies show that many of those kids go on to have fine motor issues, such as trouble writing with a pencil.
For the record, my LO crawled at just under 8 months. But he also didn't roll til after then!!! (He only learned to roll at 8 months after we did exercises the therapist taught us.

LO started army crawling at 5 months and off the belly crawling at 7 months.

Girl crawled at around 6 months. Boy crawled at 9 months. Both never really army crawled.
pomegranate / 3388 posts
Started army crawling around 6 months, and still doesn't crawl normally at 9 months. She is pulling up these days, and I think she's probably just going to skip real crawling. She is plenty good at getting up on her hands and knees, so we'll see what happens, but she just really seems to enjoy dragging herself along on her belly.

M army crawled for almost a whole month before real crawling
