Also, when they start picking how often do they change their minds? Because I make LO's costume, so if I make it ahead of time will she hate it by the time Halloween comes?

For us it was age 3. At age 2, DD could react and say she didn't like something, but she couldn't tell me what she actually wanted to be!

DD picked hers from the store last year; she was 16 months. I'm not sure when she'll start asking for specific costumes ahead of time.

Last Halloween, at 1.5 yo, she threw a fit and wouldn't wear the costume I picked. So this year I had her pick it and she was much better about wearing it, although it still took some convincing.
