September 8th!
I can't believe how early it starts for some of you. It's always after Labor Day here.

Our school district starts 9/1. It seems early to me; where I grew up in NY we always started the Wednesday after Labor Day. I'm not looking forward to the increased traffic once all the schools have started :(.

@Truth Bombs: cool! That article actually makes a lot of sense. I grew up starting school after Labor Day - and it's a fairly common tourist destination, that relies pretty heavily on teen employment during the summer.
I've since lived in several areas that start school in early August though, and the schedule actually seems nicer because they have more breaks throughout the year.

@Truth Bombs: that was a really interesting article and had a lot of great points.
For working parents the shorter summer break might be a bonus. But summer vacation from the kids' perspective is a magical one and it does seem short.
Here in MN, June is typically still cool and rainy. Our summer weather doesn't start until July and goes through the end of August, so it would be a bummer for kids here not to experience the real summer because they had to go back to school. It makes more sense in warmer climates where kids have more time to enjoy beaches, water parks, outdoor activities, etc. Just my thoughts!

Our elementary district started back on August 6! Some of the year round schools went back the third week of July.
@Truth Bombs: thanks for the link! Interesting reading--makes sense to me.

School usually starts after Labor Day but since it's late this year, most go back the week before. M doesn't start preschool til the 16th!

Sept 2nd - I couldn't believe it when my mom told me the schools around her are all back in session now! Then again, summer break here doesn't start until the third week of July, (July 22nd was their last day) so it would be a very short summer if they were back in session already!

Next Monday. I'm mourning summer traffic already. I don't get why it makes the traffic so much worse. I get it being slightly worse, but why is it like Armageddon. WHY?!

@chopsuey: Ahhhh! Too early! Ours is always the Tuesday after Labour Day. This year is September 8.
