A has been spitting up more and more lately. Sometimes right after a feeding, sometimes randomly and sometimes while he's on the boob. It varies from milky to sort of thin cottage cheese-y. It never seems to hurt or bother him - he just turns his head to let it out - but man, the laundry is getting old!
Any thoughts on what to do, look for or be concerned about?

Sounds like it's a laundry problem, not a baby problem 
As long as he doesn't seem uncomfortable or in pain, then it's fine! He might just be a happy spitter.

Welcome to my world!! R is on medicine for reflux but I am thinking about stopping it not sure she needs it anymore.

Ugh us too. She puked right down my shirt and into my bra this morning while in the moby. Then did it again before I had time to get her out.

No medical concern unless he's in pain or having problems with weight gain. The laundry is another story... M's spitting up is only just starting to slow down at 8 months. I've done a lot if laundry!

@Smurfette: how do you know if it's reflux vs happy spitting? Is she in pain?

I actually called our ped this am to ask the same question. They said if she's not resisting eating (arching her back, wincing) or crying right after she spits up, it's probably fine. And said the same about not worrying if she's gaining weight.

@aprk: @jojogirl: I think all babies technically reflux (as in, milk comes back up the esophagus). It's a problem when the acid in the spit up causes the esophagus to become inflamed and painful. I would see M spit up or hear it in her throat and then she would immediately start crying. She was started on Prilosec and continued spitting up but it wouldn't bother her.

@aprk: she was arching her back all the time and she would cry as spitting up. Now she spits up while smiling. But the other day I forgot to give her medicine till like 3 and she seemed fine. Going to keep it up till her 4 month appointment

We went to the pediatrician for this when LO was 7 weeks old. She said as long as he doesn't look like he's in discomfort and spits up less than 1/2 of what he consumes, we're ok.

We had a happy spitter as well - she never seemed in any pain (other than the odd gas bubble she would struggle to get out) and never seemed upset by spitting up, so we didn't worry about it. The laundry situation did get a bit old though - we just kept a bib on LO all the time and would change that whenever she spat up on it, which meant that we rarely had to change her outfit during the day. My clothes, on the other hand, were always caked in spit up but I quickly got to a point where unless I was completely soaked, I just wiped it off and continued wearing the same shirt. Poor DH came home to a spit up covered wife every day!
The spitting up started easing off around six months and now at 11 months, she hardly ever spits up, maybe once every couple of weeks. It was messy there though for a long while! The good thing is if it's BM, at least it doesn't stain!

Yeah it's one thing when they get your shirt but between the boobs and the bra?! Extra gross!!

@aprk - my baby was like this too. She never seemed to be too uncomfortable, but when I cut dairy and soy out of my diet (she most likely has MSPI) she hardly spits up anymore. And when she does it's just a little thin liquid after a feeding. No more chunky stuff. Could be worth trying to notice if there's any correlation with what you're eating, but if there's no other symptoms I wouldn't worry too much

@JoJoGirl: Reagan has spit up and it dripped all down me and into my flip flops and between me toes. DH just laughs and I am like get me cleaned up!!
@aprk: We went through three bibs today but didn't have to change the outfit. I just hate the bibs don't match her outfit!
