i stopped and waited a few months because, like you, that's what i had heard, but my cycles were 28-31 days once as i stopped the pill with fair regularity and looking back, i think we could have started right away. good luck!

Hi there! I went off in the beginning of August -- our wedding was mid-August and DH was terrified that if I went off earlier I would get KU right away and be sick during our wedding/honeymoon. In retrospect I wish I'd gone off earlier because my first two post-BC cycles were wacky. I expected they would be but I want to get preggo like yesterday, so I'm having trouble being patient while things work themselves out Good luck!

I went off 6+ months before ttc, mostly bc I was ready way before DH. We used condoms & I tracked my cycle, which was regular after about 2 months. Got pg on the 1st try when we finally ttc

I went off in July to have a month to chart and get used to my cycle. I then got KU the first month ttc with lo2. Both times I went off my cycle came back normally and was average length. So it kind of depends on how well you think you will react...

I'm never getting on birth control again, so I'm in the "stop now" camp. It's pretty darn easy to not get pregnant. Getting pregnant..... Now that's a whole other issue. Good luck, lady!!!

I went off hormonal BC a long time before we TTC, since it was messing with my mood and libido. The first few cycles off were "textbook" but not normal for my body, judging by my pre-HBC cycles. I'd always had longer cycles (~33 days) with a fair amount of cramping the first day, whereas my first few cycles post-BC were 29 days and little to no cramping. Then, about six months in, I had a couple of REALLY wacky cycles and after that, they went back to the way I had remembered them being before I went on HBC. I don't know if I could have gotten pregnant those first few cycles (I was tracking so I'm pretty sure I was ovulating) but I'm convinced that the synthetic hormones didn't fully clear out of my body until I had those very weird cycles. So personally, I'd say go off as soon as you reasonably can.

Also, as @MrsMccarthy said, you can't accurately track your cycles while on HBC because you shouldn't actually be ovulating. I highly recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility if you plan to track.

I went off BCP 3 months before we started TTC. Around this time last year.

I've been off 3 years 2 months and still have not become pregnant. A friend of mine with a beautiful little boy stopped her BC a month before she became pregnant.

I think it can depend on the type of bc. I was on ortho tri cycle lo and my dr said to just start trying right away. I got pregnant on my 4th cycle off of it

I would suggest not until you're ready to be pregnant. We took the 3 month advice, and got pregnant right away (admittedly, we should have used other methods...)
