I have an UppaBaby Cruz stroller that I've been using with a Graco infant car seat with the adapter. LO is 4mo now and I'm wondering when people transition their babies into what I guess they call the toddler seat and why. The FAQ on UppaBaby's website isn't very helpful. Thanks!

I think I did around 4 months because he started to like to see and sit upright. He also started getting a little big for it around then (although didn't totally outgrow it until 5 months).

I started when she could sit up independently (around 6 months). I didn't feel safe doing so before that.

Do you have the infant insert? We used the infant insert + fully reclined position on our Cruz starting really early (like a few weeks old).

@Truth Bombs: Thanks. Yeah, DS can't sit up on his own, which is why I'm a little reluctant.
@lawbee11: We don't have the infant insert and I'm trying to wait til DS is ready to use the seat without it and wondering when that will/should be. If it happened yet, when did your LO stop using the infant insert?

We stopped using the infant seat when DS was 4 months. We went on a trip with it and he screamed non stop. After that we switched to the convertible car seat, and then used the regular seat in the stroller. As long as your LO has good neck control they should be fine.

@ineebee: I would think even without the insert your LO would be ok in the fully-reclined position at 4 months. I think we started not reclining her seat as much when she was around 6 months old (the Cruz is awesome for this because there are so many angles to choose from).

We put her in the vista seat when she was around 6 months, before that we just used the car seat

@ShootingStar: Yeah, he used to be great in the infant car seat+stroller, but seems to be resisting it more and more and I was wondering if it's because he'd rather be sitting more upright with the regular seat. And he has pretty good neck control, so I think I might go for it! Thanks!
@lawbee11: Totally! I think I'm gonna play with the angle a bit and see what's both safe and comfortable for him.
@Charm54: Yeah, I was definitely planning to continue using the car seat in the stroller for longer! We'll see how he does in the regular seat.

My son stayed in his infant car seat until he was 18 months ( he's a tiny guy). Around 5 months, when he could sit up unassisted, I placed him in our jogger without the infant seat.

We have been using the Cruz with the infant insert from birth. We originally kept it fully reclined, but moved it to the first click upwards at 3 1/2 months - in part because DS is super tall and his legs seemed uncomfortable and in part because he wanted to sit up and look around more. I'm not sure when to ditch the insert, though - it would probably be fine now at 4 months but we haven't tried yet.

We have a Britax B ready, which is similar, and I switched my LO to the real seat around 4-5 months, in the reclined position, no infant positioner. She didn't sit straight up until maybe 7 months old?
We still used the car seat clicked in when we traveled at that point, though.

Thanks, all. I decided to give the regular seat a try and took DS on a short walk. I reclined the seat a little, and he seemed perfectly safe and stable in there. Yay! I know it shouldn't matter, but the UB seat is so much more handsome than our grey & neon-green Graco seat!

We switched her pretty late-8 months maybe?- but it was more for my convenience. We live on the second floor so it was easier to carry her up and down in the infant seat, all bundled up for winter, than carry her down then strap her in and bundle her up. She was ready sooner. I loved being able to keep her facing me for a while after that!

I just bought (used) the infant insert for my cruz. My LO is 3 months and she was overheating in her car seat. I tried her without it and felt she was a bit too wobbly without it. I'm so glad we got it but shes so much happier in it and way less sweaty.
On a side note have you had any issues with your cruz? My wheels have been super squeaky and rattle a lot.
