Help! My 19.5 month old has been really fussy about eating the past month. It started when we were on vacation a month ago and hasn't really gotten much better since we've been back. She used to be a really good eater and would eat at least 6-8oz of food at each meal.
For the past 2 days, she's barely eaten anything. In the morning, she has eaten ~2 oz of yogurt, she barely touches her lunch at daycare (maybe 1-2 oz of blueberries and 2 bites of pasta) and then for dinner I might be able to get her to eat 2 bites of veggies and fish. I've been trying to make all her favorite things but she is refusing to really eat anything.
For reference, she is on the skinny side -- she was 5th percentile at her 18 month appointment (18 lbs) but she hasn't gained any weight in the past 6 weeks or so. She has lost ~6 oz in the past 2-3 days. I've been trying to make sure that the 2 bites she will eat are as nutritious and calorie packed as possible but I'm starting to get worried!
I don't want to make eating a chore for her so I try not to make her mad if I am offering her the food, but she gets super mad if I put something in front of her and she doesn't want it.
Will toddlers starve themselves or will they eventually eat?
sorry about your LO's eating...I think all toddlers go through stages of pickiness or lack of appetite but it's so hard when they're tiny. Have you tried making homemade mini muffins - carrot, zucchini or banana are good. You could add cream cheese filling to the muffins to fatten her up. My LO loves soup (like miso soup or Korean seaweed soup) and mixing it with rice. Also homemade pizza could fatten her up and cut it into little triangles and talk about the shapes. Hopefully it's a phase that ends quickly!
