Do you buy a ticket for your LO? If so, what age did you start? I can't imagine E being willing to sit on my lap for more than 10 minutes at a time, and that's when he's technology-distracted!

I bought a ticket for DD last night. She's 14 months.

First time we bought a ticket was 1 year, after our disaster of a flight at 6 months with the lap/basinett.

We didn't buy a ticket for her when she was 7 months old, but if I could go back after having read all the safety things I have now, I would have bought her a seat and put her in her carseat. The next time we fly, she'll be 2, so we have to buy her a seat anyways.

We're flying for the first time next month and we didn't buy him a ticket. He'll be 10 months. However, we're taking a longer flight this summer and we did buy a ticket for that flight.

The past two trips we've done, LO has been a lap baby. He was easier to manage at 7-8 months old. When we flew with him at 14-15 months old, it was miserable. Next time, he's getting his own seat.

She's flown at 4 months and 7 months, and we have not bought a ticket. She will fly later this year at 19 months, and I think we'll buy a ticket then (it will be a four hour flight).

We haven't yet and she's 21 months. We lucked out a months ago and the flight attendants moved us to two empty seats, so she had her own. I didn't have a car seat for her, but she sat there just fine.

I'd say go with your gut on this one. I would also consider the layout of the plane. Is it three seats on either side of one aisle (aka you and your DH could tag team E in the middle?) Or two on either side and it would be easier to have everyone together? We've only flown with DD when she was 5 months old and the lap thing was a breeze. I'm not sure how long that would last now at 23 months though.

Not until I absolutely have to at 2 years old. But we pretty much only fly southwest which is open seating and no one ever chooses to sit next to a baby so thus far we have always ended up with an extra seat for her anyway (though she sleeps on my lap the whole flight)

We didn't until we had to...but our flights end up being very expensive so it was really hard to justify another ticket.

We only flew with her once at 5 months and she was a lap infant. I'm pretty sure she would have wanted to be held most of the time anyway, although she would have liked a little more space at some points. I can see it getting a lot harder as she gets more mobile!

We just flew for the first time last week at 15 months and we bought him a seat. I can't imagine having him as a lap baby at this age--he is so wiggly and honestly he liked sitting in his carseat in his seat better! I think the latest I would do lap baby is 6 months or so.

We didn't until she was 2... but she's so wild that she really needed her own seat around 18 months.

I won't buy DS a seat until I have to at 2. We just flew at 10 months and he was fine on my lap. He liked looking out the window and at the people.

We have flown twice with our LO...once at 11 months and once at 18 months. We bought her a seat both times. It made our life so much easier having her in a car seat!

We won't buy LO a seat until we absolutely have to - but she's a great flyer and stays in our laps.

We didn't until he was 2. If I were to fly really far and alone with LO, I would consider buying him a ticket.
