Before baby, I used to cook when we had family over (for non holiday meals).
Now I just order food. The in-laws are coming into town tomorrow so I'm ordering lasagna, salad, rolls and dessert from a local Italian place. mmmmm can't wait!!!

Usually I cook, DH grills, or MIL cooks (she loves cooking). Or we go down to MGM for the buffet (FIL has comps. Endless comps.)

When my FIL comes to visit he stays with my BIL so we either go there or out to eat. When my MIL comes to visit I usually do a mixture of cooking and eating out. When my parents come to visit we also do a mixture of cooking and eating out.

It's a mix depending on what's going on. We'll cook, pick up food, or go out.

@Coco Bee: HAHa. They come into town once every 3 months and everyone comes over. It's such a PITA to cook and then clean for 10+ people.
@mrsjyw: We'd grill, but we're going to P's aunt's place for a BBQ the following day. Mmm.. Didn't know there was an MGM up there?!

It's half and half. We want to cook but my inlaws want to order food to make it easier.

Cook and take out because there's food locally they miss and can't get elsewhere!

@chopsuey119: YUP. detroit's a casino town. MGM, Greektown, & Motor City Casinos... Caesar's across the bridge in Windsor, Canada... and another new one in Toledo? I think... There's a ton up north too that are run on Indian reservations, etc.

I've only served my MIL twice both times it was for Canadian Thanksgiving and we catered. It was way easier than making a huge turkey for three people. We always go out with FIL.

We usually go out to eat with them, but if they come over we grill or cook. Usually they come over for football games if it's not for a birthday, ect. so then we have all the game day food!

If it's my parents, we order pizza or chinese the first night (sort of tradition now) and then cook the other nights.
His parents - we NEVER EVER EVER eat out.

@Coco Bee: I agree!
I thought only super rich people (like the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) did stuff like that. Not to say that you're not super rich... you could be! LOL
No one would EVER do that around here!! We definitely cook.

We cook. We all cook together actually. It's really fun. We do go out to eat atleast one night.

Usually DH will cook when my in-laws come over. I'm too afraid of being judged for my bad cooking. Oddly enough we go over to my in-laws house to cook dinner for the family because both of them usually work on the weekends and come home just in time for dinner.

@Mrsdaredevil: haha we are definitely not super rich lol I mean I suppose it's not that much $$ to just order take out, but still - I don't think the thought has ever crossed my mind. Our in-laws are in NY and they didn't offer to order in while we were there either... idk must be regional thing??

We usually order pizza the first night, since they have traveled across country. After that my MIL usually cooks- meaning one of the husbands grills and we make up some sides. Then we will go to dinner a couple times.
I don't like to cook for a lot of people, and my FIL is a picky eater and probably wouldn't be a fan of what I make. That doesn't bother me at all- food tastes so much better when someone else cooks for me!

We go to their house more often (every weekend). They'll come over maybe once every 2 - 3 months and we'll usually make steak and some sides.

they live in town, so if we eat together we go out to eat. sometimes she'll cook us a big meal, but that's rare. I try to avoid cooking for other people since we don't have a dishwasher... I'm so lazy.
