When it's just you and LO and you park outside- how do you handle it? My LO is 10 months old and is usually only in the car on the weekends when my husband and I are together. One of us starts the car/has the ac on while the other one puts LO in her carseat/collapses the stroller. Today it was just the two of us though (LO & I) I'm wasn't sure how I should do things. Should I start the car first so it's not too hot and then walk around and put her in her seat? Or should I just put her in her seat and then collapse the stroller and start the car? Am I just over thinking things? It seems like there should be a better way, but I don't know what it is. What do you do when it's just you and LO and your car is parked outside (ie: not in a driveway or garage)?

If it's hot, I roll down the windows and sun roof. Then I load both kids in the car. Then stroller and other things.
I don't start the car because I'm paranoid that someone will come and steal my car with the kids in it!

Once summer hit here in TX, I started turning the car on first, leaving my door open, and then putting her in her car seat. Between the doors being open while I put her in, and the A/C cooling down, it hasn't been an issue.

I'll roll down the windows (or at least crack the doors) and then load Xander into the car. Then I'll put the stroller and whatever else away. Then I'll hop in the front and start the car.

@Andrea: I'm also afraid someone is going to steal the car if I have the keys in it! I mean, I'm right there putting LO in her seat/putting away her stroller so I think the chances are slim, but still this totally freaks me out! So do you turn the car on to roll down the windows and then turn it back off?
@Bookish: Do you leave the keys in the car while dealing with LO?

I remote start my car as soon as I can see it in the parking lot and then I make sure to get DS in first before I do anything else. I'm paranoid about a car hitting him in the stroller or someone running off with him!

@BakersWife: You don't have to turn it on all the way (like start the engine), but yes - I put the key in so I can roll the windows down and then I take the key back out and keep it on my person while I'm dealing with Xander and the stuff.

Yep, but in these situations, 90% of the time I'm at her daycare and I don't have her stroller, I'm just carrying her. If I *do* have her stroller, I take her out, put the stroller away, and then turn on the car and put her in. Her car seat is on the driver's side, so it doesn't worry me much that someone will steal the car with me right there!

I do the same as @Andrea: except if I'm in my neighborhood I will start the car when I put the keys in to roll down the windows.

@BakersWife: i have a smart key so i can roll everything down without starting the car. but otherwise, i would do what @Adira: suggested!
There are a lot of crazies out there so I would just rather be paranoid. It's no extra effort in this situation!

I put her in the car...it's hot and I crack the window and blast the AC. I like to get her in her seat before i start unloading stuff or whatever, with my free hands. I am MORE concerned that she will get loose of me and get hit by a car than anything else. She's so squirmy, i prefer to have her tied down

I start the car. Then put her in the seat. Then fold up the stroller.
But if was a quick trip like picking her up from day care. I get her in and then start the car when I sit down.

I turn on the car, roll down the windows, turn it back off, then load LO and the stroller. Our a/c is broken, so I don't like to put her in with the windows up!

If I don't roll down the windows (I'm able to on my key) then I open the hatchback and then put him in the car. I like to get a little air flow going before I put him in.

I turn on the car then load him in. Then I stash the stroller.

One easy way to cool things down without starting the car is by opening both rear doors -- helps create a cross breeze. I do that, load in baby (keep doors open) load in stroller or whatever else, and then close doors/start car/drive. I keep the windows open until the a/c kicks in well of it's still stuffy.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I don't have remote start or the ability to roll down the windows without the key in the ignition (though thanks for the tip @Adira:!) Just opening the doors is brilliant (and obvious...duh) so that's something I'll definitely do moving forward. I also saw another thread with a reflective car seat cover to keep the car seat itself cool which might be a good idea too. Thanks again!
