I keep reading that hot tubs can be really bad for sperm. My in laws have a hot tub and we use it quite often (like once a week).
Did you/your husband make an effort to avoid hot tubs while trying for a baby? Did you have any trouble getting pregnant?

We didn't avoid them and it didn't seem to have an affect. Although we didn't have every day access. We had private hot tubs on our honeymoon in May, so we were in them every day for 10 days, and then we had a mini trip over New Year's where we used the hot tub several times. I got pregnant in October (CP) and then again in February right after the New year's trip.
If you're concerned, you could probably have your DH's doctor order a sperm test.

@MrsCB: Well this is our first cycle TTC, so I don't think I should send my DH to the doctor to get checked out this soon. 
I'm just curious if in anyone's experience if it made any difference at all.

We just joined a gym that has hot tub & tanning beds. I told DH to avoid both, just encase

@pui: LOL, I wasn't sure if you'd been trying for a while. I'd say if it's occasional use it's probably not a big deal. DH actually did 2 sperm tests, and the 2nd one was in February, right before our BFP (and just a couple weeks after hot tubbing) and it had better results than the one from a few months ago.

My LO was conceived in the Bahamas, we practically lived in the resorts hot tub because it was chilly when we were there, we had no issues.

We don't have hot tubs around, so he wouldn't have much opportunity, but I would have had him avoid them. Mostly just around ovulation time though

@sslm: See what I have been reading is that apparently it can effect sperm for like a whole month (although I am getting everything from just that day to months lol. One article even said if you are planning to go TTC in say, April, you should have your guy stop using hot tubs in February!!)

I was more worried about me avoiding them in the TWW than anything with him and hot tubs. But, we don't have access to them that often that I'd be worried about it anyway. I did tell him to keep his laptop away from the goods.

It actually affects sperm for 3 months because it takes that long for them to develop. We avoided the whole time ttc even though we have a hot tub.

We're trying for a boy this next time so DH will most definitely be avoiding hot tubs, saunas, and hot showers!

@runsyellowlites: ? That can sway towards boy? I hadn't heard that yet. That is definitely a good way to motivate DH not to use the hot tub since he wants a son lol!

My parents have a hot tub and we usually go in once a week.
DH refrained during the 2 weeks leading up to my fertile days and we had no trouble getting pregnant.
I miss it!

I wish I'd known about avoiding hot tubs while I was in the TWW - I freaked out over boiling my baby the whole first trimester.
We got pregnant first try and hadn't really read anything about what I should/shouldn't do except for folic acid and the obvious.

He didn't avoid them only because we never had the option to go in one, but I probably wouldn't have made a big deal out of it if it was here and there.

When it started taking awhile, I made DH stay out of them. He was sad - he likes sitting in them when he's on business trips.

We have a hot tub and my husband's avoiding it and not putting his laptop on his lap anymore, just in case
