I agree with @hilsy85! Give him something and then CIO. We don't let Xander get up that early - the earliest we let him up is 6:00.

Although I'm still nursing, so sometimes when Xander wakes up that early, I just go in and nurse him and then he'll go back to sleep. But sometimes nursing just wakes him up even more and he wants to play and screams bloody murder when I put him back down! We've done it enough though that I think he's used to it! He'll cry for maybe 5 minutes and then just settle down and start talking to himself until it's time to get up.

That's a tough one. I'd probably try letting him fuss for a couple days (like max a week) and see whether it makes a difference in his wake-up time. If it doesn't, I guess I'd just do what you're doing now and move my bedtime up...
When moving his bedtime, did you just try it once or did you give it a couple of days? Maybe his inner clock needs some time to adjust to the different bedtime?

starting around month 5 or 6, my LO (who is now 15 months old) woke up anywhere between 4-5am and continued this for months, sadly. i tried letting him fuss on and off for at least a week with no results. i spoke to a sleep consultant who suggested that the issue was nap deprivation because he doesn't sleep well at daycare--that means his body was too much in awake mode and he couldn't fall back asleep at the end of a sleep cycle in the early morning. i don't think lack of naps is an issue with you guys (just assuming since you are SAHM right?) but maybe it's too many naps?

i ended up nursing him, even though that was a habit i did not want to get into, and he would go back to sleep. that worked for a month or so. he now wakes around 5.30, which is still a bit early (6am would be ideal for our household) but that's how we're going to roll for a while.

First I would try a little bit of a later bedtime. Even by 30 mins. For one week and see what happens. And if he woke hysterically I would give Motrin and a rub on the back and only get him up a little later. I think the early nap is feeding the cycle of early waking. Get outside (haha!) or do something super stimulating until his normal nap time.

ditto to what @hilsy85 said! no way is 4:30am an acceptable time to wake up! if it has been going on for 6 weeks, it has probably become a habit now. what is his schedule like during the day and how many naps does he take? I am sure he is exhausted by 6am, but unfortunatly a nap that early is only going to perpetuate those early wake ups. I would atempt to keep him up a little later before putting him down for his first nap, and try to do an early bedtime because he may be overtired. I would CIO with maybe 1 check until 6am (you will need to decide what your LO responds best to. when LO was younger, in the early morning hours if I went in, LO got more riled up but settled much quicker if I jsut let her be)

We went through this from about 10 months until 13ish months. Just like you earlier bedtimes didn't work and later bedtimes just meant waking the same time with less sleep. We tried CIO but out LO is so strong willed she would become hysterical and start choking on her own mucus and snot (no conducive to falling back asleep!). The only thing that worked for us was bringing her into bed with one of us. We kept all the lights out and encouraged her over and over that it was still nighttime and time for sleeping. Eventually she would fall back asleep in bed with us. Paired with eventually transitioning to a one nap day and having her canines and one year molars cut through we eventually go back (with some small set backs) to her usual 6 to 6:30 wake up. Now at 19 months her bedtime has always remained the same at 7pm and she sleeps until 6:30ish and wakes up happy and playing in her crib. Nap is 11-1ish. After fighting the early wake ups just one day she just slept! And then it happened again! And then the early wake ups stopped. Hang in there! Everything eventually passes!
