Where were you? Did you know it broke, or did you think you peed yourself?

I had just gotten to the hospital and was going to the bathroom to change my gown. I went to pee while I was in there and felt a gush instead. I knew my water had broken although the nurse asked if I was sure.

I was sitting on the couch watching a basketball game and finishing up some work assignments. I dropped a pen and bent over to pick it up and felt a huge POP! I ran to the bathroom and my husband thought I was running out to throw up- guess he was used to it by that point! It was pretty easy to tell what it was for me, not a huge gush, but very steady trickle that soaked through multiple heavy flow pads.

I was sleeping on the couch with a mountain of pillows (it was the only place I could get comfortable). I woke up around 1am with a sharp pain and when I stood up it felt like I peed myself. I wasn't sure if it was my water breaking or not. It only trickled though until I was getting my epidural. I sat up and there were 3 or 4 huge gushes. It was a very weird feeling.

My water has never broken on its own, it has been broken late in labor both times. This time I hope it does just for the experience (lame-right?).

I was in bed at 3am. I had just laid down after going to the bathroom so I knew I hadn't peed myself. It was a small gush. I went to the hospital and they confirmed that it was broken. I ended up having it broken again later in the day.

In bed, at first I though I'd peed a little because I adjusted my position in bed and, honestly, by the end you just expect that.

My water broke in the hospital while I was laying in bed - after I got my epidural....I still felt warmth/wetness though and told the nurse it broke!

Like @lemondrop I heard a huge pop!! I asked DH if hr heard it and he said no...but it was my water breaking because I started having contractions less than 10 mins later.

I knew it broke. To my surprise, it was a trickle, not a gush!

Mine broke while the nurse was checking me right before I got my epidural. I didn't feel or see anything. She was feeling and all of a sudden said "Oh! Your water just broke!"

Mine didn't break. But my sils did. She was sleeping, she thought she peer herself and just went back to bed. Until she realized she was still peeing.

2.5 days into labor, when I finally checked into the hospital, they broke my water for me in an effort to speed up my labor. It didn't work, so we started pitocin, which finally got things moving. I have no idea when my water would have broken on its own...

Mine broke at home while I was on the yoga ball. I didn't feel or hear a pop, just totally thought I peed my pants - difference being that when I tried to hold it, I couldn't!

With DD, my water broke while I was driving back to work after I had picked up the lunch order for a meeting. I had a little contraction and then felt a litle pop and trickle. Then it broke again when I was about 4 cms and lying in the bed at the hospital ; it was a big gush so there was no mistakening it! And my doctor had to break it the rest of the way right before I started pushing.
With DS it broke in hospital while the doctor was checking me right after I got the epidural.

Mine had to be broken by the doctor: it was A LOT of warm water!!! I imagine that if it had broken spontaneously: I would have absolutely known. Mine was a huuuuge gush of water and it kept coming for a long time.

Mine broke while I was brushing my teethg eating ready for work... More of a trickle than anything. It was 4 weeks early and I was in a little bit of disbelief that my water actually broke. We didn't have bags packed or anything!
(my biggest fear was that it would break in the middle of our youth group meetings and be a huge gush. I can't imagine how a group of 50 preteens would have reacted to that happening to one of their leaders!)

Mine broke when I started pushing, like @MrsKC. I think they would have broke it (and a couple of nurses tried with their hands) but the Dr was already coming in for a C section that morning, and they were trying to make sure baby was in the right position as I had back labor, so I got to the hospital at 8cm and labored 6 more hours before I started pushing! It slowed everything down (which was ok because I got to rest.)

Mine was broken for me a few hours before I delivered by my OB and it was a huge, warm gush. I'm curious if it will break on its own next time.
