DD2 is 22 months old and she is so ready for potty training, and has been for at least a couple of months now! She tells me when she's doing a poo, she asks to sit on the potty, she is forever taking off her nappy and putting big sister's big girl underwear on, her favourite books are the potty books, she has all the right terminology for potty training, and she can take off her pants on her own and put them back on with ease.
So basically every sign is out there saying 'I'm ready!!!' Our hesitation comes from the issues we've had and are still having with our nearly 3.5 yr old DD. She has been pee trained for a while now and is pretty good about it, but generally won't tell us when she has to pee, it's up to us to take her to the toilet and she will occasionally just pee in her pants if it has been too long between bathroom visits (she usually can hold it for four hours or so, but much beyond that and she has an accident). Poo is a whole different story. She doesn't do big poos once or twice a day, instead there are just tiny little poos that seem to leak out throughout the day. She sometimes seems to know when she's doing a poo, but most of the time, I think she has no idea, and these little poos just leak out throughout the day, meaning her pants are dirty all the time. When she's not tired or not at home, she tends to do better, but in general, her pants are dirty far more often than they're not. I seriously spend a ridiculous part of my day cleaning poo out of underwear (be jealous, be very jealous).
So aside from the poo issues, DD1 is no where near being night trained (she is never dry in the morning or after naps), and still requires major assistance with every trip to the toilet. Not only does she have to be prompted (she seriously hardly ever instigates a trip to the bathroom), but she can't get her pants on and off by herself, nor can she clean herself. With the poo issue, there is always a fair amount to clean and whilst she does try it on occasion, it just results in getting poo absolutely everywhere.
So with all these issues with DD1, I am struggling to psych myself up to potty train DD2 right now. We'll also be flying internationally over the holidays, including me flying back 8 hrs on my own with the two girls whilst 4 months pregnant - I don't know if I can stomach two recently sort of potty trained little ones on the flight! Also, I wonder if there's any point in doing it now when we're going to be travelling and having everything thrown off for a few weeks...
Anyway, any brilliant words of advice? Anyone been in a similar situation? Oh, the other thing is that DH is concerned about it negatively affecting DD1 if her little sister is potty trained before her, but I don't think that's that good of a reason to hold off....
