I'd like to get some nice open sweaters/cardigans that I can wear with nursing tanks this fall. I have found some that I love but they're all hand wash only. M spits up quite a bit so I know that would not work well. Where can I get some nice sweaters/cardigans/button-down shirts that are also machine washable (and hold up well after being washed)?

I like cardigans from Target. I haven't had trouble washing them. I usually wash them on gentle cycle & let them air dry.

My favorite sweaters are from Banana Republic. They hold up really well without being hand washed and you can usually get some really good deals.
I'd avoid Target's cardigans/sweaters...their nursing tanks are awesome but all of my cardigans from there did not hold up well at all! (I still buy them though because they go on clearance and they have adorable patterns! Whoops.)

I machine wash my cardigans from Target, Old Navy, Loft, and The limited. The ones with embellishment are hung to dry; otherwise, straight into the dryer low.

@lawbee11: loft for the win! They wash really well, but I hang all my cardigans and work shirts just to be safe!
ETA: I've never payed full price for anything from the loft. They always have really good sales.

The Target boyfriend cardigans really are great. They are thick enough to hold up and fully machine washable. I also have a lot from banana, but I hang dry them.

@Mrs. Taco: I am the exact same with Target cardigans! Mine always end up with holes and I always tell myself I'm done with them. And then they go on sale! Ha!

If I didn't love Forever 21 and H&M before, I love them even more now! Almost all their sweaters/cardis can be washed on cold and hang dried (or tumble cycle low). Target is great too, but I find I'm not fitting the juniors as well as I used to, and not the regular women's stuff either. I also have some cotton cardis from J Crew Factory, BR, and The Loft that are cotton and easy to wash. Trust I understand the dilemma - K is master spitter-up!

I lived in tanks and cardigans last year! I had a thin one from H&M, a huge thick wool one from Gap (washed on delicate, laid out to dry though), and another from Loft.

@lawbee11 I love Loft so much! I haven't found a brand that holds up as well as the Loft. Such cute stuff and it is always changing.

I agree with @chopsuey: I loved my splendid flyaway cardigans for nursing. I wash them in the washing machine and still wear them all the time! They cover a little extra postpartum tummy nicely too. Just a little $$...

@lawbee11: I machine-wash my cotton cardigans from BR on cold/gentle and dry them on a drying rack. They're starting to look a little ratty but I've had them for a couple years and they get pretty heavy wear. Same with my Ann Taylor ones, though those actually do say machine wash cold, gentle cycle.
My current favorite cardigans are the MOD Lusive ruched-sleeve open cardis from Nordstrom. They always have some colors on sale for a pretty reasonable price, and the fabric is super soft and stretchy. They don't have buttons but you can put a belt over them to make them a little more dressy. Not sure if this link will work: http://m.nordstrom.com/s/3275036/.

I have some basic flyaway cardigans from Express that have held up REALLY well over the last couple of years. I just bought more because I love them for nursing, and they're great for pumping at work too!

I machine wash all my sweaters, including cashmere, and have never had any issues. Wash in cold water on the low spin cycle (delicate cycle leaves them way too wet) and lay flat to dry.

@cyndistar3: They pill a lot (is that the right word?) and I've have at least 5 lose a button--not because of the thread, because it actually tears away! Again, I'm not exactly gentle with them

I have some from Target and they've held up decently well. The one I've had the longest has had one repair (repairing a hole in a seam), but I'm not sure if that's from overuse or it got caught on something.
I got this one and I love it! So much cuter irl.
