We do not have family nearby for last minute or even planned events that my family can't be sitters for. If you don't use family, who do you use for a sitter? How did you find your sitter?

i used a nanny service called canadiannanny.ca It works the same as care.com. I found both our previous nannies through there and they have since become our go to babysitters. For one summer, i needed part time sitters a few times a week and i found a couple through there as well.
Now that we moved, i am considering signing up again, because we are down to one sitter that we can call on. I am just not sure how to go about it since all the previous ones spent time with LO regularly during the day (and in the beginning with me around) before we used them for date nights or events.

We've used care.com with lots of success. I post an add, weed through the responses and interview several people. We've found 2 long term nannies this way and one very good sitter that we've used occasionally.

our go-to sitter now was a teacher at LO's daycare. best sitter ever!! lo is so attached to her and she misses lo so she's always happy to see her (she left the center because she's a student and has a new internship, not bc she was unhappy with the center or fired or anything) before that, we used a babysitting service from a local college, but never found a sitter that lo really took to since we only use one occasionally

A few of our neighbors have watched her, we've used teenagers recommended by other moms in our neighborhood and the teenage daughter of one of DH's coworkers. We've been happy with all of them.

We asked other moms in town and got some great recommendations. We also met a woman at our gym in the childcare room who we've been using for the past couple of years.

Personal referrals. They were all families I either knew who had teenage daughters, or friends of family/friends and I had personal recommendations.
There have been a few times I've asked on Facebook if anyone's available to watch my son and I got so much feedback with recommendations from people I know and trust!

This has been tough for us since the move! I've just asked all the moms I've gotten to know. Most have the same issue! And I've been surprised to hear lots of moms admit that they just don't go anywhere or do anything with their husband and without the kids, ever. Or, they are from here and use family/friends.
I just got a couple referrals today and it felt like hitting the jackpot, though!

We used care.com to find 2 sitters. 1 of them had a baby though, so we are down to just 1. I should probably go back on and get a second lined up just in case.

Facebook! I belong to a moms group (a few of them) for my city and someone posted that a cousin was new to the city and looking to babysit. I have 2 regular sitters and that's how I found both.
I do have a 3rd who I haven't used yet but will soon. She is a preschool teacher (my friend worked with her).
