Out of curiosity, on which side did you install your car seat? Did you install it in the middle, behind the driver or behind the passenger side? I heard the middle was the safest in case of side impacts. I also heard behind the driver's side was safe because in case of a head on collision, the driver is instinctively likely to swerve out of their own harm's way in self preservation. We installed ours behind the passenger seat so that I could reach over to baby if I needed to during a stop. When we had it checked, the lady said middle was best, but she liked behind the passenger because then you wouldn't be in the way of traffic when you get the car seat in and out. I would also like to know where you installed your car seat if you have a minivan. And also, those parents with multiple carseats, where they have them installed.

We put ours in the middle. We had been told/read that that was the safest. To be honest we didn't really consider any other options

We read the car manual and it said to do it on the side. We also chose the passenger side because I have a mirror and I like to be able to see her.

Because I need the driver's seat so far back it has to go behind the passenger seat in my car.

We put it in the middle. Though we have contemplated moving it so we can put our seats back farther.

We put, it behind the drivers side because DH aleaus drives and it was easier for me to reach her from there.

we haven't even gotten our carseats yet but when we do, we'll have to install them behind the passenger and driver, since we'll have 2 little ones. i think it will be too annoying to try to reach over to the middle.

The middle, I thought that was the only option. I won't change it though.

When we had one she was in the middle now that we have two I have one on each side.
The middle I found super convenient. I could hop in the car to buckle when it was raining or really cold outside. I was able to use the mirror there as well since my middle seat had a headrest so that was nice.

DS was in the middle, but I think DD will be behind the passenger seat because DS is now behind the driver and I don't know if they will fit next to each other.

My Subaru has a big hump in the center and no LATCH. Plus DH is really tall and needs whatever seat he's sitting in to be all the way back. The convertible fits better than the infant seat, but it still doesn't give DH enough room. DS's seat goes behind whatever seat I'm in.
I read that the differences in safety from middle to side are miniscule. I think the most important thing is that the seat is installed properly. -

Originally our bucket was behind the drivers seat...we anticipated that DH would do daycare drop off and he always puts his computer bag on the floor behind the driver seat, so I figured he would see the baby in case he went into autopilot and didn't remember to do drop off or pickup.
Our convertible is behind the passenger seat, long story short, the tethers and the size of the seat prohibit it from being behind the driver. Our car doesn't have LATCH, so any position is a seat belt install.

In our Camry we put it in the middle because it is safest with a seat belt install. This is kinda a PIA but it is safest.
In our Mazda 5 (microvan) we have him behind the drivers seat. It is way more convienent to just put him in and get in. It is also seat belt installed.

I think it depends on the make and model of your car. I would follow the instructions in the car manual.

Middle. I actually made us get a new car as we used to drive a sports car with only a 2 seater back seat, and for safety reasons felt we needed a "family SUV" with a middle back seat to hold the car seat.

For those in with just 2 seater back seats, which side should you put it on? Hubs will still be driving his RSX when LO arrives =)

I'll put mine on the drivers side back seat, since I know LATCH doesn't work in the middle, and I'd rather be able to get the baby out on the same side I'm on. In DH's car not sure what we will do, probably also behind the drivers unless it's too tight a fit with DH's seat pushed back, then passenger (his car is no LATCH in the middle as well).
