Payless has dance shoes! I ordered some stuff from Amazon but then found it way cheaper at a local Outdoor Store (a weird location for dance stuff I thought!). But I saw leotards and stuff at Walmart recently as well, it's just in the big girls section, not near the toddler / little kid stuff.

@HappyBaker: We aren't too too far from one another I don't think! You aren't talking Bass Pro right? Lol. I'll have to check Walmart. Target was cleaned out!

I don't have a dancer, but I used to be one. My favorite brands were Bloch (shoes and tights), Freed (esp. pointe shoes), and Mirella (leotards). You should be able to find them all online. Most dance schools give you a list of what you can wear, particularly in ballet class, so check with your instructor before you buy.

@sorrycharlie: Ha no it's not a chain, just our town's local Outdoor Store. I'd be surprised if Bass Pro had them but who knows!

Former dancer here. I bought most of my gear online from Discount Dance Supply. I would echo @honeybear: for brands, except I loved my Gamba pointe shoes But you shouldn't have to worry about pointe shoes for ages...which is good because retrospectively I have no idea how my parents afforded my monthly pairs!
ETA: check the school for a dress code. Most of the classes for littles are more lax, but generally there is a strict dress code and different colored leotards per level.

Our ballet school has a boutique attached, though we bought lo's dance stuff at another brick and mortar dance shop as I wasn't sure what size shoes she would need so I wanted to be able to try them on.
Definitely recommend Bloch and Mirella!!

Do you have any local dance shops around? That's where I always got my stuff but M's studio has a big store attached. I've seen some leotards and tights at Target too.

Online or a local dance store. I like Capezio and BodyWrappers. Try Amazon?
