Hopefully we will live on an East Coast barrier island. The Carolinas seem divine.

I think it'll depend on our kid(s). I'd like to be near them, especially if we have grandkids. But if we wind up with them widely scattered, or if they move a lot like we do, or if they don't have kids, or any number of things, that may not be as big of a deal. DH wants to retire to the Caribbean. I'm more of a mountains person, but I think I could be happy on the beach.
Ideally somewhere in Scotland, but DH isn't as big on that.

DH and I talk about this. I want to live in a big city so that we have lots to do, don't have to worry about cars and it is easy for our kids to visit us. Ideally it would be Paris.

I'm not sure if DH and I will ever be able to afford to retire...
However, my niece has told me she'll take care of me when I'm old and feeble.

I want to live up north (still in Ontario), on a lake. Somewhere quiet and nowhere near a city - a nice little town would be lovely.

We have been saying since our first trip to Seattle in 2010 that it's our retirement spot

Close to our kids; hopefully they'll all still be in the same area!

I'd like to live close to the coast or the mountains. It depends on my parents. I want to be close to them as long as they are alive.

Siiiigh. Here. I don't see us moving away because all of DH's family is here. It'll be interesting to see if our kids move somewhere and then we move there!

@runnerd: too funny, that's where we live and we are happy here *until* retirement -- then we're off somewhere warm and sunny. The humidity here just drives the chill right into your bones in the winter.

Wherever my kids end up and I hope that's Hawaii hehe, jk. I hope it is here. If they are within a reasonable driving distance, we will probably stay in our home which will be paid off by then and has an awesome yard for my future grandchildren

We'll probably own a condo in Hawaii and live there in the Nov-April, then rent it out in the summer. Hopefully we can keep our home in Seattle! I can't imagine not being here during summer/fall, or being too far away from our kids

Wherever our kids are! We'll travel a lot too, and would consider purchasing a home on a Caribbean island and rent it out during the times we aren't there.

@twoofeverything: that sounds like an awesome plan!
I hope to either stay in Seattle or move to California. I can't see us living on the east coast.
