Should the backsplash go just under the uppers or to the edge of the countertop?

I've seen lots of pictures where it goes to the end of the countertop rather than upper cabinets...

TBH I think it would look a little off either way. If there is no sink or stove there I would just skip the backsplash.

I vote backsplash to the edge of the counter top. We went back and forth when we renovated and the contractor convinced us to go that route. I'm glad we did. However, if there is not a sink in that area I'd skip the backsplash and just paint.

Since you are not protecting the wall from water it defeats the purpose of "backsplash"

I'd go no backsplash. I saw an episode of Flip or Flop with a similar layout where they tiled the whole wall in something pretty and used it as a focal point to in the kitchen.

Edge of the countertop and then put a tile trim cap on the top and sides. I like your cabinets!

@PinkElephant: I love the idea of tiling the entire wall, that would be a knockout feature!

If you do the whole wall what do you do with that left side? There is more width of wall on the left than there is on the right.

I agree with @skipra: That space would look best without a backsplash. Tiling all the way up would only highlight the uneven spacing around the ends.

I never thought of a feature wall either! So many options! Im so boring lol

@T.H.O.U.: I was thinking the difference probably isn't as obvious in person. I'd put a big potted houseplant (like a big yucca or something) next to the counter on that side to cover up the space regardless of whether I made it a feature wall or not!

Here's a pic of the other part of the kitchen, they just finished the backsplash there. I think you're right and we will leave the other side plain

@gotkimchi: Ohh pretty! Agree with you regarding leaving the other side plain. Do you have a paint color picked out?

@YogiBeachWife: we do - it's a lighter grey/greige
@2littlepumpkins: @ladybee: thanks!

Now that I've seen the other side of the kitchen, I would definitely not tile the first side. I think the range area or the sink/window should be the focal point of a kitchen.

@Finfan: I agree after seeing it up by the stove, it's a little different then I envisioned
