My husband and I are just starting to look into adoption and I really have no idea where to start! Any good suggestions or resources? We're hoping for domestic infant adoption. Thanks!!

Well, you've already made a lot of the initial decisions just by being able to say that you want to do a domestic infant adoption. The next step is to start researching agency vs lawyer. Then you have to research which agency or lawyer. There are lots of good resources for researching both and I believe I've linked to many of them in my blog posts. If you do use an attorney, stick with Quad A attorneys and if you use an agency, make sure you really scrutinize which is right for you.
It's such an amazing journey! I wish you all the luck in the world!

@Mrs. Jacks: Great - thanks! That is a lot of good info! I'm having trouble getting to just your posts. Do you know how I do that? Thanks!

How exciting!
We are super early in the process, so I don't have a lot of adoption knowledge yet, but when we were researching, I googled for all the adoption agencies in my state and sent away for information packets and browsed their websites. From there, we narrowed it down... some of the factors we used to narrow it down were how expensive they were, if they seemed ethical (this was a big one for us), and location (since we knew we would have a lot of classes and meetings to attend). I also searched online for reviews of the different agencies.
We found one we really liked and made an appointment to meet with them, and we felt so good about it, we both felt like we didn't need to interviw any other agencies.
If you haven't already, check out The Bump's adoption board. I lurk over there all the time and it's a lot more active than this adoption board.
Best of luck to you and keep us updated!

We went with a full service agency that took you from beginning to end. Some make you do your own home study or other little things and we found it comforting to b with th same people all the way through.
We also found an agency that has no birth mother fees. Some may require it and I was too scared to have thousands of dollars infested in a mother that might change her mind.
Those were just some of our requirements when we were looking and things we liked about our agency.

We've looked at private agencies and a foster-to-adopt program through our local Children's Aid Society. I'm not sure how adoption works differently in the US.
Best of luck - and keep us posted on what you find out!
